Hello. I am about to start my journey to building my first rig. Based mostly around helicopter flight.. the project at the moment is very fluid but at this time I would like to achieve:

    • Realistic feel when getting "light on the skids" and hovering
    • Enough DOFs to balance cost and real feel
With the ultimate goal being servo linear actuator's with a physical cockpit and screens/projectors instead of VR.

Over the next few days I will be posting some of my initial plans and drawings

So please join mem.. criticize and have input on my journey...

So the design phase has begun.. I plan on using 100x50x3 box section for the frame. 100x10 flat bar for the motor mount plate and 100x50x5 angle for the bolt down plates.

And with the top frame..this frame will most likely be constructed from ERW box section due to its light weight.

Both of these drawing are first draft. But I invite people to have the input!

The placement of your uni-joint is incorrect, too low centre of rotation. Recommend you have a look at the project area for inspiration.
