After broken a few 240 degree mechanical potentiometers, I'm thinking about retrofiting my seat mover with homebrew continuous rotation hall effect pots. It allows a drive motor continuously rotating in one direction without breaking anything.

I found this A1301 hall effect IC with 0~5 V output @$3. Has anybody use this chip in similar application?

    How linear they are?

hello andyw. the potentiometers built in this way are quite linear, the voltage across the hall sensor grows in a linear and non-logarithmic way, I've tried my big motors and they seem to work very well. I'm not a great expert on simulators, but I wanted to have one because I'm curious and try to build it as cheaply as possible. you can find the download link for a package where you can find several pieces that I designed and freely editable and print in 3d to adapt to your assembly needs.

Hi Marco, Thankyou for your information. I'm thinking about making my own version with wood as I haven't finish my 3D printer yet. Also my wiper motor doesn't allow me to attached a shaft to it to sense the rotation angle. Andy

Hi Andy, and good wood too, you can take some ideas to perfect your system. as you will have seen I use different engines than usual they have big 30mm shafts where you can weld drill anything. if it is interesting they are electric servo motors of opel corsa. use same motor for the steering wheel .. good job and post some pictures. Hello. Marco

great! more cumbersome than a 3d printed potentiometer, but surely you will make it work, at least practice with this system. now two magnets on opposite sides and you can try .. hello
