As far as I know, the search function gets deactivated, if the server load is high.
I guess the server may become increasingly unable to handle the traffic.
X-Sim forum page load takes quite long some times, also.

    regards

I dont know how long it takes until the forum resets the search function after a traffic spike.
Or is it the video bar, that causes overload?

I have search problems constantly, and most of the time I'm the only member online :)
Before becoming a member I didn't use search, I was reading all posts one by one (didn't know what to search for) :)
But seriously, there is some kind of problem with search feature that needs to be checked.

I'm currently getting errors about not being able to execute SQL queries.

    Code:
    MySQL returned error 1: Can't create/write to file '/tmp/#sql_6d2d_1.MYD' (Errcode: 17) (localhost).

Seems that there are problems/issues accessing the /tmp filesystem, maybe full? :)

    Bye, buk

Got that via that link in the wiki:

I deleted the broken *.MYD file on the tmp filesystem and restarted the apache.

top | shows me that the mysql daemon got a high payload when browsing the forum and using the search. I check the database next.

Maybe you hit the moment the SQL Server wasn't available?
Currently I'm not able to produce any errors.

This has been happening for months, not just on the home page, but also on othere pages too. I'm glad to see that RaceRay is back!!

BTW - There server should always be available :) Database software should have lock managers to handle far more transactions than X-Sim produces.

I speculate that many people have their browsers open to X-Sim even when they are not looking at it. Each time the Recent Posts section refreshes, I assume it is performing a search.

Would changing the refresh time of the Recent Posts section of the home page from 1 minute to 5 minutes help until there is a dedicated server?

BTW - That sounds like a denial of service attack waiting to happen! Perhaps we shouldn't advertise the vulnerability ;D
