It seems the big business interests of Formula 1 don't want sim racing knockoffs of cars and liveries: http://pretendracecars.net/2016/03/23/formula-one-declares-war/

Thus far over 30 pages of Formula One related mods for two officially licensed Codemasters titles, as well as Reiza Studio’s Automobilista have been removed.

Can you imagine if all racing series acted like this. F1 has been a bit elitist in the past but this takes the cake. Hopefully they realize how this hurts the brand and let's be honest most of the mod stuff will pop up elsewhere. The web is big and f1 can't watch it all.

Those 2013 2014 Codies MODS were a Freekin Joke. kinda glad those are gone. Overall piss poor on the FOM tho, THO its not the first time we've heard of this happening. Smart modder's just wont be publishing on Large sites like RD, it'll be more grass roots guys who keep it hidden from the Big Conglomerates.

A similar thing happened with the nascar racing series by papyrus in the early 2000's. EA sports bought the license rights to the nascar series. So we were forced to put up with garbage or old sims. Thankfully the Nascar world has lightened up a little. Although NASCAR never forced the removal of mods. Maybe their upset that the f1 series sims doesn't sell as well as other games. Strange how they pick on code masters titles considering they have the rights for f1.

I understand F1 wanting 'brand' control but there is such a thing as going too far. In the scheme of things hard core sim fans using and tweaking mods are relatively few in number and probably do more good than harm in promoting F1 enthusiasm.

It is pretty amazing that F1 wouldn't think this through. I think sometimes the legal department takes action on their own without someone in marketing getting involved and asking the question "Is this good for our brand?"

I started boycotting formula 1, after 40 years plus as an avid fan. The series became a joke, cars cannot be driven at the limit, are too slow, and sound as a Diesel engine with a bad cold. I wish all simracers worldwide would just tell FOM to stuff it. If there are no changes and FOM doesn't listen to drivers and fans, I think RIP, F1!

I always loved Monaco, so I recorded the last race, after not watching all the previous ones. I still believe F1 has become a joke, I didn't have the patience to watch the whole race.

I agree. Kinda like the whole situation with deadmous5 and his gumball car the 'Purrarri". Ferrari sent him a cease and desist for some floor mats and badges he had made.

I don't think so. In my opinion, as the world moves toward self-driving and zero emissions cars, automobile racing will become an even greater spectacle. Having a tank full of explosives strapped to you at high speeds will seem even more impressive and entertaining. Even if you multiply every race car on earth by 10 it wouldn't be a fraction of a percentage of all the polluting cars on the road now.

    I asked myself and found this info for year 2015 revenues;

    NFL - 12 billion

    MLB - 9.5 billion

    NBA - 6.6 billion

    Premier League - 3.3 billion

    Nascar - 3.1 billion

    F1 - 2 billion

Both F1 and Nascar are fairly boring sports if you are just watching them imho and these numbers seem to back that up (although I find MLB and Premier League more boring than watching just about any kind of racing personally)

I agree. 2 billion and still rising is going to keep them around at least until it starts going the other way.

But to add another thought, even F1 realized how boring their races are so they had to add “tricks” like KERS and DRS in an attempt to make it more exciting for spectators. In my opinion though, it is not true racing to give one driver an advantage simply because they happen to get up close behind another driver.
You sure don't see that in horse racing for example! Since you can't add KERS and such to a horse, can you imagine the lead rider having to slow down simply because the horse behind him started getting close?

I think that they are acting wrong, let´s see: There are f1 games and there are mods for other games. One doesn´t kill other. In my opinion the one who likes F1 will play the oficial F1 games even though be or not mods for other games. And maybe else one that doesn´t like F1 start to like it because of playing one mod in other game...
They have rigth to do it, but is excesive.
