These are individually made simulators, hence the very high price tag. $45K is their basic 3DOF, $100K is their newest 4DOF.

That kind of money will buy you a real racing car... :D

There is no information on the software or the controlling hardware so it is hard to say if the motion is realistic or not. Their mechanical solution and the continuously rotating base is very nice!

Yeh, this was a new article with some different pictures and angles. I think this is his new version as well.

I had asked about the 360 degree turning a while ago but no one responded on my thought, looking for like a motorcycle turntable but now i can see clearly he just uses some large caster wheels.

Yea, good start! And how about the:
wear and tear on motor, chassis
    crash damage
    tires, fuel, and other consumables
    crew member(s)
    travel cost to/from races
equipment hauler to drag car and extra gear to the track
accommodation, food, etc expenses while at the track
track fees for race, practice, test
time off from work to do it all

geez, I'm sure that there are another handful of things I haven't listed

oops! ouch! the hospital and doctors bill when you damage yourself

To pay your truck driver that carries the car would cost you more then 45k. Thats why the race teams are using these types of sims. i would like to make something with the 360 motion. the ferrari f1 team uses the same swivel effect as well.

can we do this with x-sim?

Their targeted market is clearly not the DIY crowd, my comment was a joke as the :D would suggest. I am aware of the costs and expenses involved in motorsports.

For individuals with $250K+ income this simulator is just an other toy. For racing teams a $100K+ simulator is peanuts, which is written off from their taxes with other expenses.

shannonb: The 401cr could be replicated with X-Sim and the appropriate controllers and hardware without any problems. They don't post supported games, or anything for that matter about their software or motion engine, but I would not be surprised if X-Sim outperformed what they have.
