FlyInside FSX Pro 1.8 - for FSX, Prepar3D and X-Plane has just been released: https://flyinside-fsx.com/Download

FlyInside provides quality VR integration for FSX, Prepar3D and X-Plane. If you have never tried it then grab the free demo, it is an awesome experience with lots of features that make bolting on VR support a cinch.

I can certainly attest to just how good the immersion is. It's really good. There are occasionally CFIs and other real world pilots who chime in on the forums at the FlyInside site and are amazed at how much the visuals are like flying a real airplane. One flight instructor mentioned how he uses flight simulation software to help his students gain familiarity with approaches and patterns but some had trouble translating a monitor depiction of a 3D world into a 3D image in their mind so simulation didn't help them at all. He went on to note that when he tried letting them fly patterns and approaches in VR they just got it. The visuals let them experience their position in 3-space where they could judge distances, descent rates, etc, and could actually work on their patterns in ways that helped them when they got into the actual airplanes. Was talking with a guy I work with just this last week who wanted to know if I wanted to buy his yoke and pedals. He had bought them to help with his flight training but said it was a waste of money for him so he wants to sell. I offered to let him try VR but he hasn't had the chance yet. He's skeptical. I have a feeling he will be amazed when/if he does try it, though.

If you have a VR headset and Flight Simulator X, SE, or X-Plane, well worth the time to give the free demo of FlyInside a try.

I used FlyInside on my Steam FSX, and tested on demo of Xplane 10/11 -> and is a really immersive in VR - especially as early versions had been implemented long time ago, when DK2 was on the market and lack of VR support was standard it gaves an option to fly in headset.
As of big advantages it allows to use a LeapMotion device which makes all cockpit clickable [ better immersion and probably even better than using MFD displays in DCS ].
I heard that lately Pprepar 4D added a native VR support [ from v. 3.4 as far as I remember was actually added ] but still lack of LeapMotion - which is still only available via the FlyInside module ]

The FlyInside dev is focused on refining existing support, so P4 won't be supported for some time.

No support yet, or did Dan say he is dropping development for those platforms? I can't see him not supporting them. It's more likely that it's just taking him a while. He at least used to be just a one man show doing a phenominal job of a very complex task.

Dan just showed off his own VR flight simulator title at FSCon, which can use FSX aircraft, so I suspect that is where the focus is now and likely into the future: https://www.xsimulator.net/communit...-announces-own-vr-optimised-flight-sim.10391/

Wow! I certainly wasn't expecting that. Thanks for the link and will check it out! It's a pretty competitive field, though. FSX, Aerofly, DCS, X-Plane, IL2, etc. Very curious what he's up to...

Flyinside has been a real game changer for me. I did have 3 x 42" 1080p screens run from 3 copies of XP10 with another pc running 2 x 19" monitors for instruments and a third pc running Pilot2ATC. All that was wiped away once I got Flyinside and the Vive. Still, Flyinside is a bolt-on for XP and is nowhere near as efficient as say the Aerofly 2 implementation. XP will eventually get its own native VR support which may see the likes of Flyinside eventually leave the scene.

Actually the FlyInside dev is currently working on and has already publicly demonstrated their own VR flight simulator, which is also capable of utilising existing FSX aircraft: https://www.xsimulator.net/communit...-announces-own-vr-optimised-flight-sim.10391/

I really kept thinking the Lockheed-Martin guys would hire Dan to take him in-house for Prepar3D. His work on FSX, XP, and P3D has been so impressive I know LM must have considered hiring him to work directly on the code from the inside. Or they should have.

His flight sim looks like it has great and efficient visuals, but it just seems it will be hard for a lone dev to do all the things necessary for a rich flight sim. He's extremely talented though and there are powerful tools available now so who knows?

I am really hoping for a standout flight sim with ground-up VR baked in. Aerofly is close but we're all alone in a sterile world. FSX has the richest experiences and most capabilities with all the add-ins but the code is old and very inefficient. P3D could take over from FSX except they really limit adoption with the no recreational use license clause. For now at least it looks like XP might have the VR mantle going forward but the pace seems slow and for FSX, P3D, and XP, Dan's FlyInside was the go-to software for VR. Dovetail, who has the recreational rights for FSX hasn't shown any real interest in VR for their new sims, Flight School and Flight Sim World. It seems they are more interested in just milking some repeat buys with tweaked visuals on what they claimed was entirely new code but apparently isn't.

The VR future for flight sims is looking a little stagnant for now or at least in a holding pattern of sorts. (Sorry...)
