Hello guys to my first post (hopfully i don´t do anything wrong). I wanted to show you my concept
of making an easy Wheel, the hardest thing for me were the electronics after some trials with the mcp2221
i got it to work with a much simpler methot. I used an gameport to usb adapter (Logilink) that i got for 10euros on amazon. Gameport is for beginners in my opinion the easiest way to go because you can just connect an 100k Potentiometer from the 5/3.3 V pin to the Joystick axes ports. I tried it on Ubuntu and it works perfectly for the Hardware my cousin made me a wooden Wheel that looks pritty nice its 4cm thick and about 25cm in dyamiter. The pedals are pritty easy made ones they hang at an 45degree angle from the top and you can press them about 20 degrees in, currently i just finiched one of them but i´m working on the other two. They don´t have a good realismus feeling because they just use a rubber band for retraction.
After finishing this project i want to really make some pedals and Steering wheel out of metal instead of wood and maybe add force feedback i did not inform myself about ffb do you have any tips? Also is it a good way to use the usb controller of an 20bucks controller for pc or should i buy a board that can do the job if yes which one? Hopefully some of you can help me with these Questions. Sorry for my bad english i´m from germany and please don´t just say use that circut for 200$ i´m a student and because of that my budget is not very big.

So i´ve got my 100k Potentiometers now and while i tried them out a bit i noticed that the gameport adapter has just 32 steps for the axes
this could be bad for the end result especially if you want to build an 900° steering wheel
