hi everyone, I just got a new project, an atv track arcade from Namco. It is a cool rig of a quad dirt bike with seating for two people and off course motion. As you know is you have read my previous post, I specialize in buying broken motion arcades and retrofit them into a motion sim. The reason I do that is simple, it is because these arcade motion hardware is of commercial grade so very reliable and also it is the chepeast way to make sim. Hey I have made monney everytime and while keeping the motion sim. This time around I am doing a motion dirt bike, which are hard to find.

Reasons why to retrofit motion arcade:
    1) cheap to buy broken, usually around $150
    2) best hardware you could ever build, and expensive hardware
    3) system is already built and requires only small modifications
    4) retrofit is the cheapest thing around. Cost involves only: arduino uno, arduino leonardo, Chinese motor boards and new power supply
    5) resale of original computer board will get enough cash to pay back for buy, and also pay back everything needed to do retrofit. So at the end it is free, actually I have made monney and kept sim, lol.
    6) fast and simple modifications, usually one day of work only
    7) results are great, I made a plane one using a gold arcade, a car racing sim using a Daytona 2 arcade, and a passive motion Harley bike. Now it is time to do a dirt bike one with motion. I will post things about the build as soon as I get started.

Ok starting new retrofit, I have only question for your motor gurus out there.
The two motors that do the motion are big worm gear with a 3 phases D.C. Motor. Is there any motor control board that are arduino uno compatible that I could use? I don't think there is so I think I am going to switch them, what type of D.C. Motor that I could use to do so. I want cheap but powerful. I know I am asking the moon but I don't want to spend any cash on it. Thank you in advance

There's no such thing as a 3 phase DC motor that I'm aware of, do you mean a 3 phase AC motor? The default choice for most people as far as cheap but powerful wormgear motors go are these:

    http://www.ebay.ca/itm/GEAR-MOTOR-1...992384?hash=item51bd392f00:g:nOwAAOSwPhdVCxQg

but you may want the one with the 50:1 ratio gearbox depending how much your loading will be.

Unfortunately, as far as purchasing motors goes, you can pick at most two of the following:
    -Cheap
    -High Torque
    -High Speed

Thank you for your answer, I agree with you it was an error from me it is an ac motor. Let me ask you another question. I have the worm gear already from the arcade and would like to re-use it but with a different motor. What motor would you advise me to buy that is fast and powerful and not too expensive , thank you in advance

Hmm, I don't really know the size of your gearbox so I can't say what motor would be compatible. Pictures would be helpful.

It appears to be a discontinued model from here:
    http://www.emersonindustrial.com/en...able-speed-three-phase-motors/Pages/LSMV.aspx

Since they don't make that one anymore, I can't say for sure what the exact dimensions would be, but someone else may be able to help (perhaps speedy? He's the go-to AC motor guru). That also looks like a rather large motor, so most likely you're not going to find a commonly used DC motor on here that will fit that gearbox and still be cheap. Try asking around in the FAQ or Q and A sections perhaps.

AC servo motor is what you want (750w - so not that big) Eg. https://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-750w-servo-motor.html you would need to know the Nm of the motor to be sure. - if your lucky, you could probably spec the motor shaft the correct size also. You would also have to make up a steel plate to mount the new motor to the old mountings. What is your definition of cheap:). Good luck.

Thank you very much, but I just want a 24v motor that can replace it power , ramp and speed wise. Shaft anybody wight not that important, I am going to cut the shaft from the motors and sub frame them into new motors and will cnc a new plate for it. I just need a 24v motor with similar specs, thanx

Hi there and thank you very much for your help. I am going to cut the shaft of the real motor and will subframe them to the new motor,
And I will cnc a new mount, not a big deal. My only problem is to find the proper motor and it needs to be 24v. I might try a winch. But it is too noisy

$150 woood, where did you buyed, ebay?
    - why dont you re-use the ac motors... just copy what other guys here have done controling ac motors, as long as i undertand, you only need some kind of ac motor controller (industrial one) and you connect that controller to an arduino (as showed in the ac builds made here)

did your commercial rig did not have any motor countroller you can re-use?

wooow i really liked your introduction, give a second life to an old pize of junk, and turn it into a brand new grate sim.

    best regards

I always buy them on craigslist. It is cheap because they are broken. I also look on offer up its an app. I did not know I could control them with an arduino, do you have a link? Thanx
