Would using D-Box actuators be considered blasphemy :) Ok, I was considering how I wanted to go about building my friends Simulator. I read so many post and threads about this one's and that one's experiences with Winch motors, Wiper motors and Gear motors, electronics to run everything and the problems associated with it.

Watched a YouTube of PlaySeat Sims and spotted one of their hi end rigs with what looked like plungers on the front for the motion. The sim was given a price of approx $2000. Which seemed to be a good price for a commercial sim.

    Upon further
research and more YouTube videos I find that the " racing simulator using D-BOX SRP-120 motion platform" , cost $3000 plus. Gulp!! I have contacted D-Box for more info. Will pass on any info I get.

I still like the idea of having the plungers, but not at that price. Anyone knowing the inner workings of these, please elaborate.

What if we used 100 - 150 Linear actuators upside down. Anyone try this already??

Dbox will run you more than 3000$ for SURE. There's a Fellow Simracer who has an IN with the Dbox guys and his deal is still like 5-6K if i remember right. and thats only 2 actuator frame, Not even all 4. IMO if you have the $$ sure why not, But if your saving for years to get it. IMO there's cheaper better ways to get into motion.

Do you think if we turned linear actuators upside down that we can achieve the same effect as the D-Box actuators??

JRKS or Arduino and large DC motors any day, less cost and rivals it in motion

Hate to say it but you were warned ;)

But, you can have similar performance at a fraction of the cost and there is plenty of help and advice from members to help you do so.

Build it yourself and your looking at less than 10% of that $14,500 price tag....

You can also make a simulator of the same type as the D-box but with SCN6, like this.

This is my expensive than d-box

    it uses SCN6 actuators
Still not cheap, but cheaper than Dbox

Yes, they are cheaper than the D-Box
In addition, SCN6 cylinders have better range (100mm, 150mm 200mm and above) 100mm sufficient to make the same system as the D-BOX

If I have time and money, I would throw myself in one year in a simulator 3 or 4 axes with SCN6

At first I thought this was 3DOF because of it's look and photo angle, I thought it was 3 SCN's, but when I searched for more photos, it's actually 2DOF, since it has fixed unijoint on seatbase. Nevertheless, it looks pretty neat and not so hard to make, except for cost of SCN's of course - but surely it can be done for way less money than their commercial price (if they are selling it).

Its a hyperstimulator and I think you can get plans somewhere to make your own out of MDF.
2 DOF is easy for this, mount the motors at the feet or shoulder mount at rear

The interesting point about this 2 DOF is that 1 motor is dedicated to 1 DOF
Then the Simtools setup is easier for Roll and Pitch: 100% and 0%
    no mixing

If I would rebuilt a 2 DOF, I would do this!
