    Hi,

I am still reading and trying to make up my mind about what sim to build, what material, 2 or 3 dof, ........

But a good start point is to have an idea about what will I need to pay. So therefore could anyone share with me the number of alu tubes needed for the main structure (2/3Dof)? I need to count each tube needed and it´s length.

I need it to ask for a quote to an overseas alu maker. I live far away from him so I need to check for shipping and customs costs before I even think about building the sim with alu tubes.

Pls, let me know which alu tube is recommended to hold moving forces (my weight is 70kg)? I have 2 options (in 40x40):

    sytandard alu tube>

    Perímetro
    (mm)
    Xc
    (mm)
    Ixc
    (cm4)
    Yc
    (mm)
    Iyc
    (cm4)
    Espesor medio
    (mm)

    489,412 19,995 8,169 19,996 8,170 1,5

    reinforced alu tube>
    Perímetro
    (mm)
    Xc
    (mm)
    Ixc
    (cm4)
    Yc
    (mm)
    Iyc
    (cm4)
    Espesor medio
    (mm)

    480,481 20,000 9,176 20,000 9,176 2,5

I have not found anything about carbon fibre tubing used for sim structure. Only found something from "Seattime" making his actuators and using carbon. Has anyone tried that? I was looking at shops in china and you can get: 25 x 23 x 1000 mm_3 K tube for 29,18 eur. Specs are:

    - OD : 25mm (0.984 "), Tolerancia +/-0.1m
    - ID : 23mm (0.905 ")
    - Longitud : 1000mm (39.37 ")
    - Weight : 150 gramo/metro

I have no idea how is quality but it may be something to investigate. I want to compare it to alu tube pricing.

    Rgds.

You can use the free MayCad program to design your sim for profile aluminum and it will do an auto worldwide cost from them for all parts to build it, but in some parts of the world like Australia profile aluminum is really expensive: http://www.may-cad.org/en/p1.htm
