Maybe this is a dumb question, but I was wondering if SimTools works when running a game from the Windows PC Xbox app. I have only ever used Steph to play games, but I see that Microsoft Flight Simulator 40th anniversary edition is cheaper on the PC Xbox app.
Does Simtools work with this software? Or only Steam?

    Thanks!

Most use Steam for convenience but SimTools plugins can work with PC games that are stand alone installs, as long as the internal code for those games is not altered.

For example Live For Speed is used as a generic test game and installed stand alone on a PC. SimTools does need to know the correct path to a game install.

Ok thanks @noorbeast. And I can specify the path when installing the plugin right?
Also, with steam I can launch it and simtools automatically starts working for the running game. Is that also how it works for standalone games or do you need to manually run it in simtools?

SimTools should run the same irrespective of how the game was installed.

The only thing I am not sure of is if the Xbox loaded MSFS 2020 is altered in any way, as I have not heard of anyone using it, or if the plugin has been tested against it. Most plugins tend to be tested against Steam installs, as those are most commonly used.

Yes you can normally specify a path.

To give an update on this, I purchased then ran the game via the Xbox app on my PC and Simtools automatically recognized it. I didn't have to do anything in particular it just worked.

I am trying to get my SimTools to work with the F1 22 plugin. At the top of my game manager it says the game is patched however when racing I do not get any values in the tuning center. When I clicked on patch I was prompted to insert the patching path for F122 however I am unsure what to put in here since my F122 game runs on steam and so is not directly installed to my PC. Am I missing something or how can I fix this issue to get motion on my rig?

You should first run a race.

Then the plugin patch path should be Documents/My Games/F1 22/
