I have a SimX Stage 4 with a GS-5, simvibe chassis mode, wind sim and love it. Along with VR the immersion is great. However I don't think it has made me faster. I race in the pro series on dirt in iRacing and thus am always searching for another tenth. I have learned to turn all the effects down for motion and the accuforce feedback. Turned down they don't seem to hurt my lap times and do improve immersion.

Is there a motion platform that will both improve immersion and lap times? I am thinking of building a second rig for my son and going to do something different, mainly to see what I can learn. Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.

    Regards,
    ---Wayne

I've looked at it. Looks great but not sure I have the time. If I did have the time would be a very fun project.

But the big question is are there any motion platforms that will improve performance (lap times & consistency) or are they just about immersion at the potential cost of on track performance?

Nope. I’m slower in my DOFReality P6. About 1 second a lap in Skippys in iRacing. I will say I’ve been narrowing the gap, so it’s possible I’ll be on par with my non-motion sim times at some point.

The motion rig is mostly for immersion for me (rig, Pimax, buttkicker, wind sim).

Motion makes me marginally faster if well tuned and not over done, as I have a better 'feel' of the vehicle, but it is really VR that makes the biggest difference for me, as I can look into corners naturally and better judge things like braking distances.

In my case, performance is worse with a simulator but the immersion is worth the trade off by a long shot. Also, the gap diminishes the longer you play.

I love the immersion but as I am competing in the pro series I can't afford the trade off. I am trying to have my cake and eat it too, but don't think it's possible.

VR without a doubt is a case of better immersion and better performance. Motion I think not, unless someone has hit on a magic formula. As much as I like SimX I think it impacts performance, even when turned way down, especially the traction loss.
