This will be my first crack at a motion rig. 2dof to start then we'll see from there. I found a ton of info and resources so far. Decided to go arduino and mm. Might try jrk on next one but getting way ahead of myself for now. So I have mm's, pots, ard board, on the way and will post some picks as soon as my UGLY SKETCHES become reality. Probably gonna use a steering knuckle for the gimbal. Enough for now but I am so excited. I have seen some really nice stuff here. I feel like such a rookie. Thank you in advance for the time and passion you have all invested. The hard work has been done all I have to do is pay attention and it should come together. It's just so overwhelming there is so much information here. And like with many things it's seems there are a hundred ways to get it done.

An ugly sketch is fine, all you need is a clear idea of what you want to achieve and utilise the abundant Xsimulator.net resources and community support.

    quick question.....

I ordered regular pots but also saw hall sensors used. What about using rotary encoders, do they work for this application also?

To get rotary encoders to work, you would have to include some code to count/decode the pulses and burn up processor resources, plus include a startup routine and end micro switches to find the center. They are not worth the effort, when a normal pot or hall effect sensor will work just as well out of the box for most sim application.

You were going to post a rough sketch, I am curious what the dimensions are and how the motors connect to the seat.

post top is 15in or 38cm up from base
22in 56cm from motor shaft to motor shaft

    motors are 276 watts each
    psu are 50 amps each

hopes this helps i'd give more info but don't rteally have some of the design decisions made yet.

Please don't let a misunderstanding derail your project.

I understand you made a joke but unfortunately it could be misread when sensitivities regarding undisclosed commercial interests are somewhat high at the moment. That is not yous or others fault, it is just unfortunate timing.

ty Andre I'll post as I build.

and just for clarification I do not have drawings. If i did I would share. I may use the static rig i referenced (will post properly below) in my first post but it is really heavy and twists. its the first thing I ever welded, only 2 months ago. plus the seat is from a saturn (kinda heavy with useless slider) and i think if i save i can get something cooler. I don't know how to make keyway 5/8" so i ordered. the lever arms will be steel bar welded on. not sure on angle and will try to match suggested. I think the arms will come from the back of the motor. I'm not much on the math side so sorry for the lack of pre planning. I'm just building and trying to read as much as possible.
