    My Motion Simulator:
    2DOF, AC motor, Motion platform
Hi everyone! I finally decided to become a part of this community! (Mostly because I don’t know what I’m doing). Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to build a theme park in my backyard! Not too long ago I built an animatronic shark head for my pool and realized I can make my dream come true. So here is what I would like to do:

I would like to build a 2 DOF motion platform that can hold four people. I‘m thinking of using AC worm gear motors because they seem to carry a lot of weight and are not crazy expensive. However once I build the platform I have no idea how to control these motors to sound or picture. All I want to do is control the speed and direction for both motors to sound or video in a 5 minute period. Once the sequence is over, it will go idle until I tell it to run again.

So I suppose my questions are:

Am I on the right track with AC motors for performance and torque?

And if I am, what programs or hardware is available for making this dream a reality?

Thank you guys in advance for the responses! Can’t wait to hear back!

Doing some research before getting in too deep is time well spent.

You will find plenty of helpful information in the FAQs, in particular check out the SimTools, fundamentals of motion, the design section and AC section: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

If something sounds odd then look it up in the glossary: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

AC and servos are good for load, but you are really putting the cart before the horse, you really first need to finalise a design, define the load and desired performance.

The Pro licensed version of SimTools has some companion apps specifically for creating and using the types of experiences you are interested with motion:

This means a lot! And helps a ton! One of my fears was not knowing what programs to use. I will get working on a design with more specifics! Perhaps I can post what I’m thinking for some more feedback! Thank you so much!
