Just wondering if: I will be using the Arduino UNO R3 along with the Monster Moto motor shield for my project. (like this one) Question is will I need to write a code/sketch for the IDE if I am using a Game Plugin module?

    Thanks in advance,
    Terry

Let me make sure you and I mean the same thing first; with IDE you mean the Arduino upload utility correct? If so than yes you will need a sketch for the Arduino. You are in luck, there are several here to choose from. I have used three with great results, they were submitted by RacingMat, Prilad and RufusDufus. I am currently using the sketch by RufusDufus as his will control 3 axis and has a windows utility for tuning the motors.

EDIT: By the way, I am using the same electronic hardware that you listed.

That's what I thought. I just downloaded the zip files today, however I am having problems with one. Hope to get it solved soon.

    Thank You

RacingMat, Thank you. I am still having problems with that thread I posted in Sims Tools Compatible Interfaces, SMC3,#6. You said early that you were using the same equipment so I was thinking maybe if you have had the same problem, or you could tell me what I may do to fix this problem. I don't think that I would need to have the Moto Monster connected to be able to open this window? maybe.

    Thanks again
    Terry

Hi Terry, did you test the Arduino with any other sketch to make sure it works? Have you tried the blink tutorial?

    Hello Terry,
    I don't use SMC3 code.
I use the code linked in my signature: it's not as evolved but the advantage is that is the simpliest (without any calibration routine needed).

Yes I did, "blink" seems to be working for that.

Hi Terry. Look at Mat's post above. At the bottom you'll see his 'signature' starting with "From A to Z ...........". He has four links that you can click your mouse on to take you to the relevant page/post. The middle line has two links to his Arduino code - one for 4DOF and the other for 2DOF.

Problem solved. It was all about sequence. Was able to open program without error message. Thank you all. I like that 4DOF Arduino Code.

Hi Terry, to help others in the future could you explain what you mean by "Sequence"?

    Thanks!

Sorry about that, I should explain just what I did to make it work. (after both zip files have been installed)
    1. connect Arduino board to computer via USB cable.
    2. Open the Arduino IDE on your computer and check your board type and port #.
    3. Run the "BLINK" program to make sure that the board is working with the port.
    4. Open the SMC3 sketch in the IDE, verify and upload.
    5. Open the SMCutils program screen.

That's it, was able to make changes to whatever.

Thanks again for your help, I am sure that I will have more problems.

This is the procedure to make SMC3 Utils work. If you don't setup your system in this order, it will not work. Also remember that SMC3 Utils needs to be disabled / Turned off before you can run X-sims.

Hi Terry, you probably already know this but in case it helps anyone else...

These steps are for setting up for "first time" use. Once you have done these 5 steps and are happy with the results there is no need to do them again - everything is stored in the Arduino non volatile memory.

So next time you want to use your sim just go straight to simtools. The only time you need these steps again is if you are updating the Arduino software or changing the SMC3 settings.
