Question (ANSWERED) Super low framerates when running Simtools and VR, HELP!?

    Hey,
    I am having an issue where I get super jittery game play when I run simtools in VR. It's 100% related to running simtools, because when I don't run it I am getting a consistant 90 frames per second. As soon as I turn it on I will get 90 one second, then the next I will lose a bunch of frames going down to 40 or 50 and making it extreemly hard to keep the headset on without feeling sick. Then turning it off mid game, my frame rates go back up to a consistant 90 with no jitteriness. I am not sure what to try for debugging this.
    - I tried Assetto Corsa and AMS2.
    - I tried both simtools 2 and 3
    - I tried motion on triple screens and I dont have the same frame rate issues

    My guess is you have both the vr headset, and the simulator plugged into the same usb host controller?
    Maybe try plugging the sim into USB 2 ports, and the vr headset to USB 3 ports if you have them.
    Or basically different host controllers.

    Hey, thanks for the reply. I have the vr headset plugged in on the back of the tower and the simulator plugged into one of the 2 USB ports on the front of the tower, so it seems unlikely they would be connected.

    With computers USB ports often share controllers, irrespective of where the connectors are located, you can map them using tools like USBtreeview to see if you are chocking USB bandwidth: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/simtools-usb-issues-can-cause-crashes.313/

    I am guessing this could be my problem @noorbeast @yobuddy ?, it looks like my computer only has one USB 3.1 controller.
    I don't have all these usb ports though, I only have 8 physical ports.
    Do I need to install new hardware on my computer to be able to take simtools onto its own controller?

    Looks like it and all of those devices are competing for the same USB bandwidth.

    Do you have a spare slot on the motherboard to install a quality USB card? It would likely be better to use the newly installed quality USB card for VR and leave the rest where it is. It is not SimTools causing the issue, it is VR tipping the USB bandwidth over the edge.

    Some USB cards perform better than others for VR, particularly for USB 3 where manufacturer standards compliance varies, so you may want to do a quick search before purchase.

    Just to give an update on this, I tested by plugging in the arduino for my platform in a usb 2.0 port and then my VR into a usb 3.1 port and I stopped seeing the jittery issues I was seeing before. So looks like @yobuddy and @noorbeast were right again, as usual. Thanks again for helping me out!

    Awesome @toyvonen ! If you notice the issue in the future, i actually went out and bought another usb pcie card and installed it in my computer, and I JUST run my arduino on that for simtools now and havent seen any jittery issues
