Yesterday I finished the conversion of my old 2DOF frame mover to a seat mover. Here are some pics of the previous build and how it is now

    Previous build:
    20160207_210840.jpg Current build:
    20161005_093413.jpg

I have been slacking in terms of posting pics and info as I build so I thought I would do it now.
The old frame was a bit of a compromise because I did not initially want it to move so I decided to rebuild it.

I began by repairing my brother's old Kart seat that he used to race with and dismantling the old rig
20160923_145017.jpg The electronics stayed exactly the same as the old rig but I moved the seat connecting rods from the base to shoulder height and added rose joints. I did not do any balancing work to get the chair to sit nicely and minimize forces on the motors as I reasoned that most of my weight would be directly above the pivot and therefore would cause no moment. DON'T DO THIS!!!! It has caused a big problem for me!!!!

The aim of this project was to make the rig as customizable as possible so the pedals and steering wheels are fully adjustable. Pics are down below as thumbnails.

I will probably add a gear lever attachment some time in the future but I guess I will have to stick to formula cars for now:)

The motors are Isuzu wiper motors but they are not ideal. They have low RPM, power and nominal torque.

Overall I am happy with how it turned out except for the balancing issues which I need to resolve.
I use an Oculus Rift when I race so that is why there is no screen.

*Apologies for the 3 full size images, was just trying to create a sense of progression;)
