The useful takeaway from this is not the 20Megapixel per eye VR displays, which would take a currently unachievable 100gb/sec data transfer/rendering and processing using current techniques, but rather the importance of eye tracking and foveated rendering to create small areas of high resolution precisely where you are looking in VR.

standalone VR headset--wow. The video is informative. Great to see what's going on VR.

I was more interested in the actually testing (now) of such high definition displays for VR. Without these and the technology to actually make it all work, VR will find it hard to get traction in the world outside of enthusiasts. This guy understands that and is basically saying 'Look we have this needed technology now - get on board. In my circle of work/friends/family (lots of Gamers/Techos/Engineers in that group), I'm still the only one that owns anything VR - quite telling really:think .

Do you mean in general or the specific implications for VR and Foveated rendering?

i still don't think it the headsets that the real issues atm i think its the pc stuff and the gpus just falling behind already, they need to get sli or crossfire working on vr so it runs one card per eye then they can get the res up on the screens, you have to think higher res = more gpu power we should be able to chuck full ultra on everything with higher res but atm we struggle on the res we do have in vr right now.

Eye tracking and foveated rendering. Already demonstrated. Odds are good we'll see it and high resolution on all headsets going forward with gen 2.
