I just had word that Santa has fired up the sleigh and is headed to the international date line, somewhere around Christmas Island, Kiribati, ready for a world wide tour. For those who need it here is the official Norad Santa tracker: http://www.noradsanta.org/

Seriously though, I know we have many members from around the world who have a diverse range of views and beliefs. Irrespective of what those may be I would like to pass on end of year seasons greetings to yourselves, and those who you hold near and dear.

This has been another year of global upheaval. Wile the Xsimulator.net community strives to be inclusive, members are still impacted by global events, be they pandemic, war, rising inflation and the like. Despite the challenges our community has continued to thrive, including welcoming many newcomers.

On that upbeat note I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed to Xsimulator.net. All members have advanced our community, plus DIY motion related simulation and peripherals, in a vast array of ways, and the originality and ingenuity you all bring to your many and varied projects continues to amaze.

In 2022 our major community build trends have been a noticeable return to entry level rig projects, much of which has be stimulated by @Halloween2go's video build series.

Higher end peg leg and 6DOF rigs remain common, often with a great deal of care and quality craftsmanship, but perhaps not built as prolifically as in recent years. Servo rotary and linear actuators remain the mainstay for such rigs.

After a bit of a development hiatus, work has recommenced on FlyPT, providing fine user level control of its pose based motion simulation.

SimTools V3 is currently in open Beta testing, sporting a modern interface, new plugin repository system, and many user plus performance improvements.

There has been a bit of an ongoing decline in G-Seat and G-Pressure systems during 2022.

Peripheral projects continue, but again at a more modest pace compared to previous years.

This year also ushered in a bunch of plugin updates and new SimTools V2 plugins, despite the pending release of SimTools 3 and the new plugin repository system. As always @Wagnard's continues to diligently update his Elite Dangerous plugin. Adding further PS 4/5 plugin support @vthinsel has added both SimTools V2 and V3 plugins for Gran Turismo 7.

Stepping up to the plugin dev plate @fox2022 created a new Forza Horizon 5 Plugin. @Bruno Machado created a plugin for Helicopter Simulator VR 2021. @krotos139 added an interfacel plugin for the 6 axis Shuyak platform.

As always seasoned plugin devs provided updates, with @yobuddy also adding the F1 2022 plugin, responding to member requests.

So a big Aussie Christmas koala stamp award to all the plugin devs, who we all depend on to bring our motion rigs to life in our favorite games.

Externally the crypto spike in GPU demand and skyrocketing costs has eased, there has also been some easing of the chip shortage that impacted some other peripherals. The high end race and flight peripherals market has noticeably expanded in 2022. There are ongoing and new players expanding offerings in the commercial motion rig space as well.

As we put 2022 in the rear view mirror hopefully some of the associated challenges will ease. In the meantime, wherever you are and whatever you may be doing, many thanks for being a part of this vibrant community. I wish you all the best for the festive season and new year, no matter how you choose to celebrate or spend them, and I look forward to 2023 being a year of endless creative project possibilities and the ongoing growth of our Xsimulator.net community.
