I Just finished making a scale model of the 6DOF rig I'm planing on building. I wanted something physical so i could work out the geometry and make sure their are no major problems. Im intending on using a VR headset for both driving sims, flight sims and elite dangerous. I will probably be using 200w - 300w, 24v DC motors wit ha 1:50 gear reduction. Im pretty sure the lever arms I have in the model are longer then what i can get away with but thats easy enough to adjust.

    What do you guys think?
Do you see any problems with the design i can improve on?

Your scale model is already superb, very good precision work:thumbs

Beau projet, Des moto-réducteurs de 250w peuvent faire l'affaire si vous disposer d'environ 30 Nm en sortie.

Beautiful project, 250w Some of gearmotors can do the trick if you have about 30 Nm output.

Thanks, yes that was more or less what I was calculating. Still debating if I want more movement or faster movement. From want I understand from other posts that VR doesn't take kindly to vibration or sharp movement. I will also probably add 3 pneumatic cylinders to each set of frame posts to help lift the platform so the motors don't have to work as hard. Thoughts?

Pour moi, des ressorts en acier seront beaucoup plus efficaces, moins esthétiques et plus encombrant aussi...

For me, steel springs will be much more effective, less aesthetic and more cumbersome as ...

Thanks, The rig is my own design based on all the research I did on this and other forums. It borrows from many designs. I discovered recently that it's not unique at all but was a good mental exercise non the less.

The 3D printer is very usful for this project as you can see. The seat was someone else's model but all the other parts I modeled. I couldn't find good models that where printable so I made my own. If anyone wants them it be happy to share them.

@SilentChill use gas struts to take some of the load on his DC powered 6DOF rig: http://www.xsimulator.net/community...tors-mms-and-arduinos.6948/page-21#post-94241

Thanks for the link to @SilentChill build. I have referenced it a lot as i designed mine. I think my design most closely resembles @SeatTime. It seams gas pistons are the ideal off-the-shelf solution. Rigging up springs with the right compression ration seams much more complicated in comparison.

Here is some of the SketchUp models I made for this project. It includes the Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog controllers, Thrustmaster T300 wheel and T3PA-Pro foot peddles. I also included a motor model and lever arm. The motor is based on the gross measurements of the 320W industrial motor found on Motion Dynamics website. I choose this mainly because it was pretty large and I wanted to make sure I had space for everything. In reality I will might use something smaller.

Phase 2 of my build included servo motors used to control each axis. I successful modified and installed the Arduino code needed to use the data for SimTool. I also adjusted SimTools DOF for all 6 axis of control. Now I just need to find some plugins that work with the games i have. Unfortunately the Elite Dangerous plugin is broken. :(

How do I find up to date plugins?
