    Hi @all

Maybe I am looking for a new powerful PC, got some information and found these parts to base them together:

    Intel Core i7 4790K BOX (LGA 1150, 4GHz, Unlocked)
ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO (LGA 1150, Z97, ATX)
    Corsair H100i, all-in-one Mini-Wakü CPU Cooler (12cm)
RAM im using DDR3 2000 already, so I can keep using it.

Any suggestions or comments are very much appreciated.

How much ram? What OS system you planning to use?
    What graphics card?
SSD drive or normal HDD 500 gig
    What power supply you planning?
More or less looks ok, should do the job, very well actually.
I think you were planning to rift it later?
    Dave.

Nothing wrong with that so far @Pit. What are you planning for graphic card(s)?

SSD drive or normal HDD 500 gig = SSD (WINdows Boot Disk) and HDD IDE 2TB
What power supply you planning? = 800 W
I think you were planning to rift it later? = Yes, but at the moment using a seat mover gives not not the best results (head tracking). Surely if the CV1 is available it will be hard to resist. Furthermote I bought 3 projectors which have been very expensive so they will stay for a while.

Beawdy mate. Looks like a good upgrade then.
I will stay with my eventual plan with triple screens as well.......
Rift once CV1 comes out I reckon. I have more sim build plans (ergh), but have really run outa money for the next 6-12 months

The PC will run things nicely. So the only thing left @Pit is what version of Windows?

Liquid CPU cooling is now old school, air cooling is back in. I'm using a Thermaltake NIC C5 and my i5-2500k is staying at 57 degrees with a 4.9GHz overclock (3.3 standard) although I barely play any games anymore that need so much power so I just run it at 4.2GHz now (Temps stay around 45 - 50). I had a H80 but temps went all the way up to 70, I couldn't afford the H100 at the time ($200) and the NIC C5 was only $60. Im not even running the fans on high and the CPU temp barely goes higher than idle temps. I definitely rate the NIC C5!

Have you thought about Windows 10 64 bit @Pit?

There are several videos on YouTube that show an increase on FPS in several games. There are also no compatibility problems.

Have you considered the GeForce GTX 970? It gives excellent results, even setting all the visual efects to ultra.

The PC looks great. Good luck!

    I also come from a SLI 670, and I bought a 970
I sold the 670s cause I've been told there are problems with SLI and VR and didn't want to risk they won't fix 'em and that the 670s would keep losing value. Performances are almost the same, just a bit better the 970, but...

    1) Noise (when both cards' fan go up to 80%> you can surely hear them)
    2) Heat (two close cards that raise the heat of the case, and the CPU's heat raises too)
    3) Power consumption (one single 970 consumes less than one 670, imagine than two...)
    4) Games' settings (not all games come with an SLI acceptable setting)

@Pit if you can, do the same. I sold my two MSI 670 OC Power Edition and bought a 970 just adding 20€ (on the bay), I don't know if I've been able to do it in a few months, and I really don't regret it

While there may not be compatibility problems with windows 10 and game titles, windows 10 is not 100% compatible with previous operating systems at least in this respect; you can no longer run software using unsigned drivers! There are many fantastic freeware programs put out by individuals and groups that are no longer functional! This is because it is now impossible to turn off driver signing in windows 10. Since these are freeware programs they create no revenue for the authors to use to purchase signed drivers from Microsoft with.

Microsoft has been slowly phasing the use of unsigned drivers out. There was no problem using them in XP. Then in windows 7 you could use them but you had boot up using driver test mode. Once initiated test mode stays active thru re-boots unless it is turned off again. Then in windows 8 you could still use test mode but it doesn’t stay active thru re-boots anymore. Therefore, to turn test mode on in windows 8, you have to boot your computer twice each and every time, telling it to re-boot in test mode after booting up the first time!

Now, while this was getting to be quite a pita, at least you could still use programs with unsigned drivers. Then windows 10 comes along with absolutely no way of turning on driver test mode!!!!!

I love it when companies do things claiming to have your back in mind when they actually only have their own backs in mind! Microsoft states security concerns for their reason to no longer allow for unsigned driver use. What they fail to mention is that they charge big $$$ to companies in order to get a driver signed from Microsoft. So, while they claim they are doing this to help protect you, they are actually only taking away your choice to choose whether you wish to take a chance running a program with an unsigned driver while indirectly putting more money from your pocket into theirs!!!!!!!!!

In the past I have been a fan of Microsoft over Apple because Apple has always been anal in their control over what software they allow. These days though, it’s getting very hard to tell one from the other from a programmer’s viewpoint!

It's actually much worse than that. While Signed Drivers currently work with Windows 10, a number of them will expire over the next year or so, creating orphaned hardware.
If the driver build date was Before Windows 10 was released, it won't expire. But, for any newer drivers, Windows 10 expires the driver when the key expires.
Not a big deal if you are running up-to-date hardware, but if you're running anything where the manufacture would like to sell you their latest instead, well, you're boned.

I didn't mind signing drivers, it's all automated for me.

But having to submit drivers to Microsoft every time I make a change for it to work on Windows 10, and a SEPARATE build for none-Windows 10, sucks.
(they changed signing, you can't just dual sign, it must be separate. WTF!!!)

And of course theirs the whole issue of them keeping your wireless password (not just a hash). I hope they get sued into oblivion over that one.

For personal use, I've recently purchased a few extra copies of Windows 7, because it's that or flipping Linux.

Correct, avoid SLI if VR is on the horizon, there is no support for it in the current VR.

I would think then that in the future manufactures will either need to keep their hardware drivers signatures current or state an expiration date on their product and in its description or they will be sued too!

The problem isn't manufactures, they'll just submit their drivers to Microsoft.

The problem is orphaned hardware (new model of hardware available, manufacture has no interest in supporting old one), Opened Source projects, PlayStation Eye type projects (3rd party writes software for someone elses hardware), and in particular, developers signing drivers for friends (friend has old hardware that would work if only the driver were signed.... Can't do that anymore after key expires).

Why it was a Dick Move:

If it was strait out of the box, the honest way, customers with effected hardware would see it doesn't work, and they could choose to revert back to their prior O/S.
You have 30 days or what not to revert your Windows 10 before your prior O/S is revoked.
By taking up to a year or two before it takes full effect, people will not be able to revert their machines without great effort, including re-purchasing their old O/S.

It's hard to not use the word Sleezy when discussing this. It was completely dishonest.
