    Hi all,:D:D:D

    I have been reading as much as I can this 3 days. So i decided to build my own motion simulator, DIY 3-DOF Sim Car. :nerd

    Please keep in mind im a total newb to this type of project. Hopefully I ask the right type of questions, but any advise, feedback or creative criticism is welcomed and appreciated!:sos

    It is totally up to you what you build but if your focus is racing rather than flight I would suggest a shoulder mount design with traction loss, as it is far easier to build plus is highly responsive at relatively low cost.

    In my view your design as pictured would better suit a flight simulator.

    Looks like it will be an impressive build. Kind of a similar design to mine, but I limited mine to 2DOF to make it smaller, cheaper, and easier to build. Still I've been shocked how long it is taking me and how much work it is. As others have mentioned, this type of design does work better for flight sim. Although if well built without too much backlash, it should give decent performance for racing also.

    I would recommend connecting the two outer frames together, unless that pipe section is cut out just for illustration purposes. I've been shocked how much force gets applied to the frame when changing motor direction, and that split frame looks like the weak link in your design. That is the one area you don't have to worry about weight, so it is best to overbuild it a little.

    Also I recommend pre-planning where the motors and linkages are going to go before staring to build anything. If possible, model the motion or at least carefully check that everything will clear as it moves to the limits. I though I had my design perfect in that regard, but I had to tweak some things once a built it because my linkages were hitting each other.

    the position of the steering wheel in most passenger cars is way to far away imo. you want the wheel as close to your chest as you can stand. This will give you more control as you are able to use a larger number of muscles to turn the wheel. the center hub of my steering wheel is only about 15cm from my chest. passenger vehicles are built for a wide range of body sizes and the designers also like to get the wheel away from the operator for collision purposes. build a mock up out of cardboard maybe and see whats comfortable for you. larger people do not fit in my sim. a friend tried and aborted his attempt at a ride due to his circumference (belly fat).

    When creating my project was quite the diversity of people who would use it, the prototype would be tested diretamento the public to be dealing with a dream to take the inclusion of technologies the slums of São Paulo / Brazil. However if the project is focused for personal use and should be priorisado confornto.

    That looks like a big challenge!
    But I am really looking forward to what you are in process of creating!
    Btw, which materials will you use for the frame?
    As already mentioned, you will need VERY powerful motors to move the simulator quickly enough, especially if you are using VR (which I suppose).
    A heavy frame will not only drive up the expenses in Motors, but may also not achive what you are aiming for.
    This construction made out of steel frames will already weigh a lot... and aluminium may not be strong enough, or (more likely) is way harder to process...

    But who am I to question you, I am still studying mechanical engineering, so that's just an opinion ;)
