    As for price it will depend what the exchange rate is when it ships, so it may be more then $1100 AUD ;). I was always going to purchase the Rift anyway, as it has the tracking camera.

    Wow, I was not expecting that price! Like many people I am pissed off, but I've been on and on about Oculus Vr for so long I feel I can't really back out now.

    Booked my slot, (May) and the card doesn't get charged until its ships, and that gives me a reserve spot, and I can cancel my order before hand if I get cold feet, or the Vive impresses everyone with it's price. Its got the advantage to undercut OR, though by all accounts it's going to be more expensive than the OR.

    I may just get a used DK2 for a good price as ebay is awash with them today already! Then wait for CV2.

    But I feel Oculus has done a lot of damage to VR with its pricing. It should have been Under $500 including shipping.

    They made a huge mistake telling people it would cost just a bit more than DK2. The should have disclosed it would cost double the price. Anyway, I ordered one...what choice did I have if I wanted one.

    Totally agree @Leo Burton it is a high price but it will get cheaper in the years to come that's for certain. Look how much those curved TV's cost when they came out they were £1000's and now you can pick on up for well under £1000.

    For myself if the Rift keeps me in for 10 nights when I would be going out on the piss I have already broke even :D

    Also in a way its good that not every tom dick and harry gets one its like we are still in a kind of elite club of something that not everyone has yet.

    Hell no at that price. Completely ridiculous for a first edition which will be outdated in 12 months and the specs still aren't even that much better then dk2 etc

    Palmer made Twitter comments relating to costs but never really clarified what 'in the ballpark' meant. I certainly think the price is justifiable in terms of tech and bundling, but things like the 'in the ballpark' and Q1 release statements were deliberately misleading.

    In a market sense I think it would have been better not to bundle gear with the Rift, including the controller and case, and perhaps even leave out the built in headphones to get the price down. But, too late now, consumer grade VR sits around the cost of the high end graphics card that will be needed to run it, without taking into account the other high end hardware that is also required.

    I am in two minds. I agree with @SilentChill , that it'll be worth it if it's used constantly and saves you on 10 nights of boozing!

    But I agree with @Boomslangnz as well. It'll probably be under-spec and outdated in 12 months. There will be better screens, resolution, tracking etc.. coming down the road after it, and a lot of loss on the value of CV1 when comes time to sell it on ebay.

    Luckily those early buyers (March and April) can review it enough before they ship mine, and I can chose to cancel or go ahead.

    I'm really bummed though, I built my Hackintosh dual-boot computer with a i7, GTX970, and 16gbs of RAM specifically for Oculus Rift's "imminent arrival" of Q3 2015! !

    Hell, the excitement for the OR over a year ago led me to discover this amazing forum, and a few months later I had built one of @Wanegain SimuKit, and I love it, and everyone who comes over and tries it, loves it!
    I never thought I'd ever own a sim, let alone build one myself> But thanks to Wanegain, and everyone on this forum, I have one, and constantly think of building a 6dof like @SilentChill with a record breaking '6dof in 6days!' (I know it was a few days over, but you know what I mean! Super fast build).

    And all of that was for use with the Oculus Rift. I've played with the DK1 and DK2 repeatedly, and held off buying my own waiting for the CV1! Now I may end up with a used DK2, but will see how the next 3 months play out, and I may end up getting the CV1. I'm usually an early adopter, but I hate to think in 2 years it will be the Nintendo PowerGlove of VR!

    so im in the club with the cv1 :)

    what annoys me is they buy to sell on and some muppet will feed these greedy idiots selling them on.
    they doing it before they got them already.
    i understand if you buy one get it then its not what you want or like then sell it, but already is awfull to those that tried to get one and may fail.

    What was also interesting is this statement on Oculus Website 'Rift will also be available in limited locations at select retailers starting in April.' So I wonder who will be able to purchase from a retailer in April?

    Interesting. I wonder if that would be a cheaper way to get it here in New Zealand.

    I did the maths and with all the shipping, tax and mystery extra $100 USD they are charging for NZ then it works out to just over $1,500 NZD or $1,000 USD

    Now that we have an idea of when it should be arriving(April for most of us) can we start up a thread for VR specific motion rigs? I mean a top to bottom optimization of a 3DOF setup to give the best VR experience, very low latency between telemetry input to motion output, high res Pot for finer control and accuracy, lighter top frame and seat, arduino/jrk settings and high rate data, and of course how to tweak the motion profile for VR. Basically a guide to what can be adjusted or improved on own end and maybe for devs too.

    IMO, I don't see CV1 changing much on the currently running (DK2) VR rigs :think. All of the above are a good thing for any rig. Although my bad, as my current rig was made with VR in mind from the beginning, The rigs frame needs to be rigid, especially where it supports the camera. Any oscillations will kill tracking.

    I built my rig to experiment with VR, the only difference from @SeatTime's observations is that I run the Rift camera off the rig.

    In setting profiles I go for speed and accuracy over gross axis movements, as I am far more interested in treating my sim as a giant haptic device and have messed around with ideas such as a haptic harness. Unlike others I attach my harness to the frame via the lap belts and leverage the small amount of fore and aft movement of my heave knee to good advantage in creating the harness tensioning sensations.

    Oh no... Rift has done a Sony.
    Similar to the PS4. "Let's be first to the market and charge silly prices." (PS4 was AU$599 at release)
    Given the Xbox controller is only AU$69 (almost throw away) the rift can't point to bundled items as an excuse.

    Competition will drive down the price in no time and puts the ball firmly in Vive's court.
    Even $50 less makes Vive look like champions of the cause ;)
    Soooo glad I landed in the mud with empty pockets when I tried to jump on the VR bandwagon :)

    And as for pre-order with shipping in March... No thanks.
    I wonder if Rift will charge "actual March price" instead of the pre-order price?
    Rift have almost set their prices in stone until Mid 2016. That's a disaster.

    I don't expect the Vive to be cheaper, as it is a complete VR package with dedicated VR controllers, Lighthouse, chaperone and integrated and tracked camera pass though, it does not just let you see a room but can edge detect objects in the 3D space.

    While the Rift is a somewhat more refined consumer HMD release with the integrated audio and cloth like construction I am far more interested in the Vive as it pushes the innovation boundaries further. But take a deep breath, as HTC has always said the Vive would be sold as a premium product, so first gen is likely to be expensive, more so than the Rift.

    I don't mind that at all. If Vive sets the expectation that it's premium, then the price will match I guess, but you will "feel" like you are getting more. Where Rift dropped the ball is having a DK2 at $350 and then saying CV1 is "in the ball park"

    Sure the Rift will sell by the truckload, but I bet just as many people closed their wallets and will wait.

    The annoying thing now is that DK2 units (which are already stupid prices on Ebay) will sit around the CV1 cost well into 2016

    Don't forget that Sony is also working on integrated VR for the Playstation. That may well grab general game players at a potentially much lower price point.

    First gen VR is still anyone's race, and it has only just started.
