It is in Valve's interest to be open and support everything, but the same can't be said for Oculus, which is doing things like funding 'exclusive' launch titles. It really is shaping up as a turf war over content distribution control and I think it will be some years before there is any consensus on things like standards.

Still waiting for more info on how lighthouse works with the movement in the motion rigs. There is a HTC event on the 20th so maybe we will get some interviews with full details.

There is also The razer VR hmd, it's not as great as the dk2 but its open source, if you looking for something like that. Plus I think they do a lot of extra packages and other peripherals.

Yeah no Vive info yet, they did say it was still coming in 2015. Someone mentioned December 8th as a possible date.

HTC sees it as a higher quality item compared with it's competitors. Rumours are that the release price will be in the £500 range which would probably stop me from buying it then. Especially when the Rift is going to be around £300 (allegedly).

Chances are that if I do decide to buy one or the other I'll buy from america or canada anyway because they always screw us with hardware prices in the UK.

For example, If an item like the rift is released at $300 USD it'll be released in the UK at £300 which is actually over $450 usd.

    I hope you're wrong cause 500 - €£$ - would be too much

That is true about the prices but I believe the US doesn't include sales tax in their prices so it is usually a bit more even if you are in America. VAT at 20 percent is a killer.

Australians face similar costs, 10% GST, Oculus charged a shipping premium for the DK2 and I expect that will be the same for the CV1, plus the Aussie dollar has dropped a fair bit.

At this stage prices are just speculation but to be fair you have to add the cost of Oculus Touch controllers and likely an additional tackling camera to the price of the Rift to directly compare with the Vive.

@noorbeast Hopefully they come out before the proposed GST increase! You have to wonder what mark up Harvey Norman would put on them.

I shudder to think what retailer would do but don't think they will get the chance as online sales make more sense until you have an established volume market.

I think if they do release before xmas, the prices will be crazy as people will preorder them to sell for profit as the ultimate xmas present. It'll be the must-have tech item.

I'm happy to wait for the price to drop a little. It'll give me some time to actually finish building my sim.

It will be pre-order madness. I did that with the DK 1 and 2 but oculus really did not have its act together for Australian shipments, particularly with the DK2.

I don't know how HTC will go with shipping nor is there anyway to know if there are any new tech bugs. Much as i want to get in early I keep telling myself I should wait...not sure which is going to win yet ;)

The year is fast running out so my best guess is they will make a releas announcement, open orders for a limited amount of stock and it will be snapped up.

Saw that. It would have been nice to track 3D printed props like dashboard or door or maybe a shifter or attach them to the backside of some gloves to track the hands but still be able to use them. We got our racing wheels so it's not really needed for now.

The touch delay puts me in a quandary, I had planned putting off buying the Rift until touch was released, as I don't consider it a complete VR package without it, but touch may even blow out until Q4 2016 and I have not expected that.

I will get the Vive but am now thinking of jumping back on the Rift pre-order bandwagon as well.
