    I've just read you want to replace your french damper.
    Maybe something like this would be good. They are used in Automobile industrie. Open the trunk at your car and you can see them.
    The should be really the same diameter. I use them on my handbrake and it gives a good feel. You can tets it with the ones from your car. you can turn them out by hand like a screw.

    I had to add a spring behind the load-cell in order to come back to zero value.
    Without spring, the handbrake was seen as still braking by windows controller.

    It very good now and I think it is finished. :cheers
    Hopefully I have other sim projects awaiting me!
