New member and I found this site while searching for information about building a Flight Simulator
I recently acquired a Cessna 421 fuselage and have cut off the cockpit to use for the simulator -
Have many questions on how to proceed - what type of platform to use - hydraulic or electric - weight limitations- etc

You will need something substantial to drive it but first I think you need to elaborate on details so community members are in a position to appropriately advise.

So what is the anticipated weight of the cockpit and user(s)?

Do you intend a full 360 degree of movement or something else such as pitch, roll and heave?

    What is your anticipated budget?

    Are there any space limitations?

A sketch of what you intend would be helpful.

    Thank you for the response

as far as the weight is concerned estimated weight 1500 to 2000 lbs ( two pilots ) considering pitch roll and heave

Budget is flexible but would like to keep cost down

There are no space limitations however I would like to be able to transport simulator

will get working on sketch and will get pictures of cockpit shortly

To keep costs down you may want to go with an AC powered 3DOF with a center support spring, similar to what @cthiggin is building here: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/3dof-ac-motor-platform-95-finished-020515.5085/

@speedy is really helpful when it comes to giving AC advice, and you could review some of the existing AC information in the FAQs, then formulate specific questions: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/vfds-and-3phase-motors.9/category

This gives a bit of an idea of what a spring assisted 3DOF rig looks like in action:

Thank you for the info on Tom's project - can't wait to get going on my project - looking at his design of the platform will have to make it larger say 10' x 10' to mount the cockpit on - taking pictures of aircraft cockpit this week and will post
will have to find out where to purchase rest of the equipment required to complete this project
again thank you for the information
