    @speedy (Any ideas making the Nut without 3d printing ?)
    You only need a drillpress that can drill on a angle.
    With plastic you can use a speed bore (for wood) to make the bearing places.
    You dont need to work precise ,with 3 bearings its centering when clamping

    NO :) That is just an example of what one may accomplish with a ballscrew and off the shelf parts.

    40$ is just the ballscrew and nut..

    For an acruator like that you need:
    a ballscrew and nut
    linear rails
    linear bearings
    motor coupling

    around 170$ when all is said and done...

    Heres pretty much all you need for an actuator like the one in the picture:

    I am using a 10 turn pot and suitably sized gearing. You could also use a rotary encoder, but I decided against this, due to the load it puts onto the ARD.

    @Pit @SeatTime For the pot there is an easy DIY way for wooden gear covered with a peace of timing belt ... super quit and can have a bearing in it's center feature .:thumbs



    This can be used for the 10 turn pot attached to it on one side ... and using another gear on the other end with a timing pulley running along and attached to the thread-less screw nut going back and forth along the Axis length ... turning the pot so exactly giving the precise position .

    I've got another idea ... the same wooden timing pulley used above for the 10turn pot ... can be used running on a straight fixed half of the same timing belt along the motion rang ...
    both may be used as DIY "rack and pinion"

    edit: Plus ...a wooden planetary gears are available to use by this option ... for high torque and quite operation :thumbs

    These are great ideas:thumbsunfortunately, I don't have the space in my new actuator to run a gear system beside the ball screw and with 80 turns end to end I need a 8:1 ratio, so the size of these timing belt gears would not fit nicely within my casing.

    You can also get a drill press pretty cheap these days if you know what you need and shop around.

    @noorbeast ... Really cool :thumbs ... The issue with 3d printing is you wont get solid nut that can withstand the force and torque ... it may split and crack easily ... even if the print orientation changed ... it will just crack from another place .
