    D-box has a nice range of tactile and motion. From the fine vibrations you get from tactile transducers to large vibrations of wheel traction slip and then to large g-force type sweeping motion. So comparing them with other types of simulators is kinda hard. They use kollmorgen servos with a screw thread like design to drive the up down motion. Sorry I don't know the technical terms.
    Of course an SCN type simulator with tactile transducers is awesome too. Frex seems to sell actuators that support a lot of wieght and I've ssen pictures of their setup that has a d-box esque setup. Although i haven't tried those and not sure if they will give you the same dynamic range in tactile vibrations.
    It might not be much in videos when viewing d-box demonstrations in terms of movement throw. But you feel a whole lot at your butt.

    It comes down to preference, find a local guy who's willing to give you a run on his d-box rig with some nice high settings. Also try other motion simulators. That was how i decided on a d-box motion solution. Avoid racing simulator centres who generally tend to turn down the motion settings or aren't properly tuned to the sim to get a feel of it.

    It also comes down to the final motion code. D-box with pcars is just pure fun with excellent motion code and road feel. Curbs are felt pulsating from the individual four wheels that comes in contact with it.

    IMHO they are inadequately priced. Probably this effect can be achieved with much less cost. Will know for sure soon, going to test my own servo design in 2-3 month)

    If I am not mistaken, D-Box's headquarters is in Canada. And being in Canada does not give me any advantage as D-Box motion is expensive. I could have got my hands on a brand new 2 industrial D-Box actuators with game controller for $6000can but still went on a better priced commercial motion (T1000 by Prosimu). I've tried sourcing just the D-Box actuators but gave up, first because I couldn't find any, and second it'll be too much work to get it to work without the D-Box game controller.

    I tried my buddy's 4 actuator d-box setup and it was really great. But I am sticking with my motion sim rig as honestly, even with limited test of my new motion sim, I find mine wasn't that far behind in terms of immersion.

    Yes, I've developed electronics and firmware and tested it on 1kW torque motor, works great so far.
    I think it will be able to reproduce vibrations as well, so there wouldn't be the need to use separate vibration speakers. Now have to put it all together with mechanics, and PC software is under development now. I hope to shoot fully assembled prototype video in about a month.
