    Hi there

I make this post to present the work I've done when building a home-made simulator (following wanegain's tuto)

I'm at the point that I try to make it works with a pc, for the moment I want to use it with elite dangerous and assetto corsa only (maybe with nolimit rollercoaster later)

I will post some photos later

Simple construction effective Wanegain of the tutorial will democratize DIY simulator.

What wood did you use for the base?

For stiffness I recommend you to make a frame with brackets below the fixed part.

    good job

    Thanks michto

Yes wanegain made a very helpful tuto, I guess anyone who would be interested in simulators should begin with that ;-)
I'll explain tomorrow what I've done (mostly because I have to translate all the french terms, which will take some time I think)

    Hi there
It has been a long time since I came here, so here are some news about my project.

First, michto, the base is composed of 2 pieces of wood, one is plywood and other one is hardboard (not sur of the exact term)
The two pieces were glued together, and bolted, with some holes a little bit larger than the screw.
What I wanted to do was to reinforce the base, don't know if it will be enough though.

The main post which will support the seat (and me) is fixed to the structure with metal brackets, I used threaded shaft and bolted it from each side of the wooden pole.

Don't know if everything will be sufficient to support me, but this project is just the beginning, I intend to build later a metallic structure.

Everything was fine, and I fixed all the stuff ordered for the simu.

At the first try, seemed to work, but I found that something was not clear from 1 motor.
Unfortunately, something was wrong with the simu, only one side was functionnal, the other was completely mad from time to time
After several tests, it appeared that the cause of my problems was the sabertooth, so here I am, waiting for the return of the sabertooth.

Meanwhile, I decided to build another wooden pole to reduce the gap between the seat and the base, I managed to reduce the height of the pole from 25cm to 17cm, will post photos when everything will be OK.
I know the motors can suffer from that choice, but I kept the original pole and threaded shaft so if I see a problem, I'll put back originals.

Sorry for having been so long to answer, and don't hesitate to correct my mistakes when trying to expose what I've done (both my project and my english :D)

Frustrations and setbacks can happen. I am still tinkering with design aspects of my sim even after it is operational, we all learn things along the way.

I look forward to the photo updates and your further progress once the Sabertooth is replaced.

    So true

To be honest, when thinking about that, I'm quite happy with that because I learnt a lot about the simu itself and the way it was built.
It'll be easier for my future projects I think (I want a 3dof)

Waiting for the sabertooth now, hope the french post did not lose it.

So here I am, sabertooth received, put in the simu, and this is what it looks like :
    10320002.JPG
    10330003.JPG

Plenty of things to do now, most of time it's about settings, but I'll have to build something to be able to use my wheel, for the moment I use a xbox controller to verify everything.
I have a problem with the Elite plugin, don't know yet why, i presume it's about the update but not sure

I have technical issues to resolve, will try to explain what later

So this is what you shouldn't do when building home-made simu :

The bottom plate is too flexible, which is what I wanted at the beginning to prevent it from breaking.
BUT everything moves when I am ingame, so the link between the motors and the potentiometer is not good

Gonna find another plate more rigid

JRKS may cost more, but are simpler to set up, faster in response and move quite a good lot of power. They are not well known on the french forums as there is a massive push for arduino and H-bridges. Claiming they are better, when sorry, they are not.
Also, on your frame, yes, use stronger brackets or weld a corner piece on them.
And the design they have is not really well setup. I did something like that years ago and it had a similar problem. The desk racer frame design is better.

Please mate stay objective, you are off the track IMO. Some points are true, but who says Ard is not fast or "better"? D o you mean, my winches could be driven by jrks at full power? No. So please no bashing against Ard & Co.
