    Hello

I have this time two questions.

    1. Is Surge same as vehicle speed?
    2. How do i make a relation between speed shown while the game is ON and the data extracted using the sim

    thanks.

surge is sort of related to vehicle speed, more hitting the gas or brakes, if you get the profile right, the frame should stay upright under acceleration.
    Fiddle with the profile.

    Hello Jismake!

Maybe you're confused because Surge means two things:
    - In physics, surge, or lurch, jerk, jolt, is the rate of change of acceleration (what bsft described) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerk_(physics)
    - In motion, it's a DOF : Surge is the linear longitudinal (front/back) motion http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship_motions

If you need to know the speed: you'll have to wait for Game Dash App release.

This is not too far away. Sorry for the wait.
What do you wish to use the Speed value for.?

thanks for all replies. here is one clarification and another a question

    1. I am trying to display speed info of the game on a instrument cluster. Hence I need to extract the speed info from game and convert to instrument cluster data
and calibrate enuf to show the same speed value on the cluster.

    2. Does it mean we cannot get the speed info directly from game?

There is an additional dash app floating around here but I'm not sure of its state. Ask @yobuddy about it.

I should have time to get the dash app sorted out for a public beta sometime this weekend.
I have not had enough time to put together a manual or anything yet.

Yep with a companion app this will all be feasible in the future, already have a test app using a tm1638 and have driven stepers on a porsche dashboard too.
Easier to drive RC servos but steper result in a finer movement.
Getting the speed value will be totally separate for the motion data makes it so much easier. We are hoping to release it for public testing soon. Cross me fingers, I have 3-4 examples on how it can be done with the Arduino UNO.

if you can share those examples, it would be more than great

my plan - i read the values of the game to serial port of my PC and i wil take it back to my PC (not sure how i can read directly to my software)
and put it back to another serial port , where i have serial to CAN converter. the CAN output will go to my cluster to drive the speedo guauge

This is possible with a CAN Bus shield with an Ardunio but have not taken it that far personally if you can get a mirco controller to control you dashboard I strongly believe we can at least make a few of the dials come alive.
But an easy hack is to replace the speedo drive mechenisum with either a small h bridge or stepper or aircore driver and use the Ard to control it.
But CAN is much smarter and better.
So yes in the near future this will be avail for all to play with and expand.

    Hi everyone,
How to get the speed value? I want a linear analog voltage output to drive a fan with it.
Can i use the third axis in an arduino with SMC3 to do that?

    the dashboard supplies the speed.

@Nick Moxley that's interesting. But how do I use the dash data? I see simtools can gather it from the game, but what's next?

It would need an ard program for Game Dash which would provide an analogue output voltage, which could drive fans [either DC or 230V AC] Or the ard could drive a regulator directly.
But guess not much request is there for such a fan. I don't know how much it could add to the immersion. [or to arthritis :) ]
I saw somewhere an example of it, the guy was already wondering how to make it turbulent.
