Just a few quick words from the beginning: this is a NON-PROFIT, NON-COMMERCIAL project I did mostly for myself and to aid the DIY-Community in following my way to build their own stuff.

The whole source code is available under the terms of the GPL. This is strictly a private project, I do not intend to commercialize it at any point in the future nor do I want/make any money from it. I also refuse to accept any donations! I exclusively do this for fun and for the sake of training/education! :)

This project is serious heavy duty industrial grade stuff, no compromises and potentially dangerous!

I try to keep this thread as updated as possible but I can't promise that I won't miss to inform about any firmware or sortware updates as much as I can't promise to read all the posts. I'm also sorry about the links to the German forums, but this is where you'll get the latest updates and where I can keep up with answering questions and informing people. I exclusively do this project in my spare time as a hobby so I don't have the neccesary time to be in several places at a time.. :(

Feel free to send me an E-Mail to the following address if any questions arise: info@opensimwheel.net

    Basic technical specifications
The Argon Drive Stage can drive up to 19A with our special firmware. This enables us to use motors like the Lenze MCS12H15L that can deliver up to 30Nm of torque (compared to a CSW or T500 consumer wheel they can deliver about 5-6Nm and a Bodnar wheel which can deliver about 16Nm of torque..).
The cheapest option would be to use the common chinese MiGE 130ST-M10010 motor which can deliver about 20Nm of torque @9A.
You will need an industrial servo motor with an incremental quadrature encoder!

    Installation Instructions for the Game-Plugins:
You'll find a folder called "resources" in the root folder of the downloaded softare. There you can find the plugins for rFactor, rFactor2 and AssettoCorsa.

    1) rFactor1/2:

Installation instructions for das MMos FFB USB/HID Board (STM32F4 Disco):
It may be neccesary to remove vJoy if you want to use the great expansion board MMos has programmed. If you still get crashes from the config utility please make sure that vJoy is completely removed from the system!

Drive Stage 585€ *bump* - what a mess. More than €1000 for a wheel, that doesn't come cheaply. How and why did you decide to build your DIY wheel? Are there any advantages of the DIY wheel in comparison with the "standard" wheels?

@Pit because a bodnar will cost about 3-4 times of the opensimwheel. You cant compare this brilliant work with any Standard wheel like csw, t500, frex or else! Please compare the specs *hint*

You could use a cheaper drive stage like the vsd-e but would need a sperate power supply (extra costs) + you will not ne able to use the 19A like with the argon. As said for theses specs it is quiet affordable

Thx Bernhard for your impressiv work. Thx mmos for sharing his usb-hid knowledge!

This kind of DIY wheel is industrial grade! versus commercial products which often return for after-sales servicing as seen on forums...

With this, you can drive a 1kw motor versus 75W and pulleys...

@Pit: I have built a similar wheel to this one and it's gorgeous!

Here is the principle of the second case (MMos FFB USB/HID STM32F4 Board):
    MMosFFBFW.png

@yokoyoko : I think the overall cost should be equal between VSD + PSU and Argon without external PSU...

Whoops, sorry for posting in German.. I didn't intend to, but it happened anyways as I remembered from the old X-Simulator community days that it was a mostly German speaking community.. I will update the post shortly :)

@bberger Thanks for sharing the information of building your outstanding simwheel!

I've been waiting for your new posting related with this servo simwheel since I'd read your replays on Homemade FFB wheel thread started by mizoo at race departments.

    keep up to great work!:cheers
