2DOF motion simulator with a rotation axis

    In a 2DOF motion simulator, your weigh is on the ball-and-socket joint (pivot), and SCN5 actuators move the seat. Therefore, SCN5 do not move the whole weigh. However, the third actuator has to move the whole structure (structure weigh and your weigh), about 140 / 150 Kg. I have not tested it with SCN5 but I think that it is heavy for them.
    SCN6 goes right for me, although it is more expensive. I recommend SCN6 actuator for 3rd axis (in similar setup like us)

    I can't speak to degrancanaria's design and what actuator it takes to move it, but the SimXperience design allows the lower cost SCN5 to move the simulator with relative ease. With the actuator detached, I can move the Yaw axis with just 1 finger. There are some deep zoom photos off of the home page that you can view to get an understanding of the design.

    BTW- I haven't forgotten about getting those profiles released. I'm going to spend some time in the seat today.

    Your design does seem a bit lighter than degrancanaria's design which is probably why his design works best with the SCN6 instead.

    Mike, I use SCN6 100mm 20 Kgf. The SCN5 are 100mm 10 kgf
    I also I look forward to trying them out.

    Yes, I think that our design is more heavy than Mike's design. Perhaps, a SCN5 can go well if the design was lighter.

    Nice Sim. Howz it running now? I am thinking of building one off your design. Whats the length of yours and how is the SCN5's holding out. I amthinking of using three SCN6's.

    Got any more pics? Maybe some closeups of how its built?

    Hi all,

    after many hours playing we have a new evolution or improvement to our simulator.
    We have built a DIY Pedals based on Todd Cannon system. The brake pedal is more realistic, we get more feeling... :highfive:

    Bevins, up to now the SCN5s are right. Perhaps SCN6 actuators could be better because our structure is heavy but we bought the SCN5 before making the structure. It is about 2 meters long by 1.5 meters wide.

    This is really good.
    It looks like it gives great feedback to the driver and it shows in your driving that drift round the left hander.

    Well done a brilliant sim and one for the top 10 on X-Sim, we need a voting poll I think or a top 10 of rated sims.

    I can only hope to acheive a better driver experience with my sim build.

    A drift axis would add 4dof to my sim but 3DOF with heave is my primary mission right now, I am future proofing a 6DOF.

    Awesome packet, I have to have one of these!
    I think I try to go with wipermotors to handle the yaw (2 in parallel).
    Weird that I just saw this thread for the first time, and had exactly the same idea how to do it after Bernards topic about it.. =)
