:tomatos:Did I just say the D word...sorry. I know some of you are probably sick of hearing it by now, but I need your opinion.

I was looking at this site http://vesaro.com/ and was wondering what you guys might think.
    1. Is it possible that they are SCN6 actuators with fancy pants covers on them?
    2. If so, what do you think the stroke and model are, or what is your opinion of the needed stroke and max force in this application?
    Thanks

NO. not sick of hearing it. D-box style actuators are used in several commercial style sims.
SCN5 could be used but may not be strong enough.
Motors might be the go , if you wish to build a sim similar to this one.

3 weeks ago i did try the d-box simulator at the CES in Las vegas, it was using 4 small acutuator 30mm the feeling was good, it was hooks whit nvidia 3d cards 3 monitor and glass , feel good but not bether then my personal simulator using 2 scn5 150mm, i bild mine for arond 3000$ and the d-box system is 10 time more expensive 30 000$ so not wort it.

so scn5 are the way to go

Thanks for link, but googling the cylinder isn't bring up anything similar. Do you suppose the D-Box is making there own linear screw mechanism and then using the Danaher motor on it?

Do you think the actuators on the vegas sim are the same as the vesaro? I have in mind a 4DOF of similar design and a 5th to create yaw

not familiar whit vesaro , stable ride, nice look but limited movement that d-box compagnie have more succes making movie theater seat. fun to try, and to my undersanding they deveop actuateur as vell then a special code secret to them so you can not use it if you dont have a d-box system. They receve masive money to develop from `.la caisse de depot du québec' (Québec governement) many millions.
But you can do as well for 2-3000$ learning stuff here! My desing is as good

I have not had the opportunity to ride any other motion sims apart from my own. So I cannot compare. I am told actuators are more effective than motors, so I will take it as fact.
Yes, anyone can build a motion sim for $3000 or less. If you compare videos, some of the home built jobs look to have better motion than some commercial sims.
Its likely, d-box get an actuator made up with existing parts though.
Overall, how much money do you have to spend? If you want a d-box, go buy one, if you cannot afford one, build something from this site.

Yes, I'm looking to replicate the D-Box 4DOF for half the price I hope. I realize the actuators are expensive  I'm not looking to buy D-Box actuators, but actuators that can do the job of them. Like you say, perhaps even better + I want to 1up this design by adding a 5th DOF, for slip angle. I like this design because it offers a fully upward motion as well as static steering wheel position. At this point I'm looking for suggestions for actuators. I think I have read twice now the SCN5 would not be strong enough.

that is correct mate scn5 would not be strong enough in the scenario you describe, would work for ya 5th one thou,
Now have you thought about building 2 of Yobubby's cards and hooking them with his addon to a variable speed drive, so you will be able to run 240v motors to gain 4 dof in a professional manner.

Another is to look at Aldoz unit where you can achieve the vertical lift but will be using friendly 12v units and the Jrks to drive them. Just a suggestion,

I would first consider building a model to test ya ideas before moving straight into a sim build, it will allow you to get famiular with xsim and give you a very good indication on how you end product will run.

    Hope that help ya along.

Thanks for the suggestions. For the 240v motors, are you suggesting motors with linkage? Can you provide a link to a motor as an example?

Did you ever get this going ILikeBeans? What did you build?

Also which actuators are the SCN5? Are they the D-Box ones that travel 1.5" in both directions and come with the 4250I package?
