How about this motor?

    Possibly not, the figures of torque look a bit low.
    Most people here use a car windscreen wiper motor. They usually run about 10-15 nm of torque for a small unit. Most small trucks and buses use some 12v and up to 30 nm of torque.
    Windscreen wiper motors will draw up to 20 amps power.
    If you go to a auto wreckers you may find a wiper motor for cheaper than what the price of the unit you are looking at.
    Suggestion only, if you are starting out, get a few second hand motors and work with them first.

    I am considering building my own actuators and I came across this video on youtube from xxxvr:


    looking online I found these motors:

    and looking on craigslist I found a pair of actuators similar to what is being shown in the video for US$100. I am considering the 350W 2600R/min motors to try and replicate the results of the video.

    Will the motor I have in mind be enough? or is there a better option that I should consider?

    Speeding up an actuator 30 times creates a lot off heat! (to much probely)
    I dont recoment doing this

    Wow, best DIY Actuators that i have ever seen :thbup: and how fast they are also under load :eek: .
    He is using 24V Motors, that was written in the report.

    It has a 24V 200W drive motor, stroke length of 425mm, max speed of 390-450 mm/s (load dependent) and a theoretical static rod thrust of 50 kgf at the motor's rated torque output.

    I am still looking for an inexpensive way to achieve motion on my platform. As much as I like taking things appart and recreating the results, this time I am going nuts because all I have to go on is the material I just read and no actual hardware. I am looking to create a linear actuator, but unstead of pusing up to lift the platform, it should push down to lift.

    I am thinking about this motors: http://www.merkle-korff.com/products/pmdcrightangle.asp but I do not know if the speed and tork is enough.
    Here is part of the specs that have me stuck

    DC Motor Ratings
    6 – 220V DC
    1500 – 4000 RPM
    10-27 Ncm continuous torque
    Gearbox Ratings
    4 Ncm continuous torque
    10:1 & 15:1 gear ratios

    I know very little about motors, so any help I can get will be greatly appreciated. :sos:

    according to the specs, the 12 volt 75 watt may do the job. It looks like it has 150rpm unloaded, so that may be about 80-100 rpm loaded....ish.
    People here started with wiper motors and a good balance point and achieved a well moving project.
    Anything more than a wiper is a step forward.
