I have just recieved my Asus Rampage Extreme 3 motherboard. The 24 pin from the PSU fits into the motherboard fine. But this motherboard also requires 8 pin from the PSU.

There is 4 pin connecter from the PSU (two of these) which make the 8pin. However I checked on the Xilence.net Specification sheet and it says : (2 peaces) small 4 pin (FFD). Does this mean they are for Floppy Disk Drive power cables. Because to power up the motherboard it needs a 24 pin and 8 pin connection. Obviously you cannot use PCI-E connections to power up motherboard so I need to clarify what the small 4 pin (FFD) are for?

    I hope I havn't bought the wrong PSU. :)

The 2 x 4 Pin connector on your motherboard is in near of you CPU and is responsible therefore to power the cpu with enough current. It´s 12V.

Most times it even works, when you only connect 1 x 4 Pin in the right connector and let the left connector unpluged. Sometimes there is a cover on the left connector.

Have you guys seen the Asus Rmpage 3 extreme motherboard.

It has 24 pin connector to power the motherboard.

And then two 8 pin !!! for CPU power.

But the funny thing is when I recieved the mother board. It had one clip covering 4 pins to make the 8 pin into 4 pin

And then it had another plastic clip on the other 8pin. Again making the 8 pin into a 4 pin.

So it looks like this below:

    8pin Socket1
    : : l: :l

    8pin Socket 2

    : : l: :l

So that means I can put one 4 pin into one socket. And then put the other 4 pin into the second 8 pin socket.
