    My Motion Simulator:
    2DOF
    Hello everyone,

My name is José Andrés and I’m officially starting my journey into the motion simulator world. As the title says, I have zero previous experience in DIY engineering, but I’m highly motivated to learn and build my own 2DOF rig.

    My Goal:

Build a Full Rig (moving seat, wheel, and pedals) 2DOF setup for racing simulation.

    Current Status:

    • Concept: Planning stage. I'm opting for a classic DC motor configuration.

    • Electronics: Considering Arduino Uno + 2x BTS7960 drivers (open to suggestions).

    • Motors: I'm thinking about using two 24V 250W 75RPM motors. What do you think about this choice for a full rig?

I’ve been reading the FAQs and several build logs, but I’m a bit overwhelmed by the leverage calculations and power supply requirements.

I must give a huge thanks to @scruck for his thread https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/my-finished-2dof-project-videotutorial.16214/ his work really motivated me and provided great insights to get started.

I will be posting my progress, sketches, and (many) questions here. Any initial advice on the mechanical layout or the motor specs for a full rig would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your patience and help

He has a nice compact design, no doubt. But the movement is limited due to the lack of height between the base and the seat.

Here's my simulator, which I want to implement the movement system in. I'm open to suggestions.

My idea is to use these components. I'm not sure if I'm on the right track:

    2 x 24V 250W 75 rpm electric motors
    2 x BTS7960 chips
    2 x Arduino Uno R3 chips
    2 x Pulse 24V 20A (480W) power supplies, one per motor
    2 x 10 kOhm resistors

The motors have sufficient power. I've also been advised to modify the power supplies to 18V to avoid damaging the BTS.

You only need one Arduino if just running two motors.

One question I have is where to put the pivoting mast with the universal joint. I was thinking of putting it at the front under the pedals, but would it be better under the seat to support most of the weight? Although I'd prefer the motors at the rear so they're more noticeable.

You need to properly balance the rig, with yourself and all peripherals on board, please see the FAQs here: https://www.xsimulator.net/communit...-of-gravity-to-balance-a-motion-simulator.55/

Thank you so much for all this information, I'll try the suggested method. I'm worried that having the center of gravity too far back would mean the motors would have to be placed at the front.
