Good day all, newbie here, from UK. Recently retired engineer from an industrial background, mechanical, electrical and small amount of industrial plc programming. Looking to make use of this experience in my 'spare time'. In users experience would diving into 6DOF be too much too soon, mainly for Flight simulator? I have watched many a youtube video and read many stories, relating to this. What I do not see so much is 'this set up can run off a domestic electricity supply', or should the assumption be that all DIY set ups are able to run from such - i.e UK 230v, 13amp

    3DOF, DC motor, JRK
A 6DOF is an ambitious first project, but not impossible.

Given the associated costs and complexity it would be very wise to spend a good deal of time researching and clarifying any related questions, then post an intended parts list before actually ordering, as a mistake could cost you time and money.

Your power draw question also relates to the draw of the intended hardware. Once you know the hardware to be used you can calculate the expected total draw.

    Short answer: Most likely, yes.

Long answer: If you use 24V DC motors there's always the possibility to buffer the supply with batteries which supply the peak current draw while the mains line only has to feed the average power requirement.

If you use industrial servos like 6 times 1HP (750W) the peak power theoretically could be as high as 6 * 2.5 * 0.75 = 11.25kW which would require 49A @ 230V. But that never happens. If you have a type C circuit breaker (slow blow fuse) you will probably never experience any problems unless your rig is very heavy. If your circuit breaker is a bit more sensitive you'd probably need an inrush currrent limiter.

Thank you for the reply. Will take on board your suggestion of posting proposed hardware, when ready.

@Aerosmith - thanks for the suggestion, re; Battery.
