This way you can map gears to different configurations. If you look around for real shifters you will see that the Reverse gear is some cars in the top right position, in some it is on the left and so on. With an 8 position shifter you can have up to 7 speeds + reverse in any configuration.

6+r for me is plenty. Most cars with 6 or more are sequencial anyway. an 8 position shifter would get pretty hard if you want to skip gears as it would not center on a gear like most street cars do. Maybe it would just take some getting used to though...

as Frakk said, I can map any form of the H patern.
Yes, maybe with 5 + R is enough, yesterday I made some test and it work as I want, I need to make some adjust in switches position but it will take me no mor than 10 minutes.

I understand what you mean but then the shifter will center between the gears, not inline with 3/4 like a traditional shifter (unless you have some metod of sliding the base of the shifter over?)

elnino or willynovi let me know if you have a drawing of your changes because I want to make it similar to yours. I had one ever built by me but has not done a good job and has many games as your seems well made and solid.
    thank you

Yes, the English is a little off but understandable.

The spring that is at the top is trying to push the whole shaft assembly up through the rod end. Because the teflon block at the bottom is flat and secured to the shaft, it wants to hold center. I can take some video of it in close action if you like. Basically, as you push it to the side, the shaft is pulled down against the spring so it wants to pull back.

The file is an Autocad 2009 3d drawing. You should be able to open it with Autocad Design Review (helps with measurements etc) or TrueView (view only) tool - Go to autocad.com and there is a link to them in the bottom right.

Your design is very nice  , but I have a small problem with the joint that moves the rod.
I took a plastic joint with a hole 8 mm. you take photos or videos at the joint in motion? :) . to understand how they work your pieces.
here is a picture of my hub:

Here are some commented closer pics. I am not so sure your 8mm rod end will work too well as the surface area might be too small. Either that or you will need to counter it with a stronger spring at the top.

Note the position of the yellow line across the shaft - It moves down pulling against the spring.

Also note that the only things secured to the shaft are the shift knob, top collet and bottom collet - no other part is secured to the shaft at all. It is all free moving.

The cad drawing is slightly different where it leaves out the bottom collet and the teflon is secured to the shaft. Minor difference but functionally the same.

    Elnino,

Is it possible to have the measure of each piece of your H shifter? I have your shifter 3D draw but it's not the good scale in my dwg viewer.
Other question, have you make each piece yourself or a professionnal did it for you?
    :)

What measurements do you need? I posted some dimensions in a pic back on page 2. It's really not that hard to 'wing it'. The Rod end is a 1/2 item.

The shifter was completely constructed by me.

Willynovi and Elnino, your designs and builds are excellent. Thank you both for sharing.

I am currently planning SimPit MK2 and now plan on incorporating an H-shifter into it. This thread answered all my questions (thanks for posting the cad file Elnino) and hopefully I can get started on it within a month or so. I ordered all the parts that I need from Ebay this afternoon and they will be put to use when I finish my current project (a new steampunk brass and cherry case MK2 see MK1 here:http://www.overclock.net/case-mod-work-logs/468160-project-serenity-another-wooden-case.html#post5678563 ). The new pit will be a transformer, Mechwarrior pit, Flight Sim Pit and Racing pit. Thanks again for posting this info!
