    I am working to upgrade a rig built a couple years back that runs from the RufusDufus SMC3 Arduino 3DOF code … I’m having issues with how the potentiometers are currently mounted, because they cannot make a full rotation they end up slipping.     Generally speaking it is a good idea to use a flexible coupling of the correct dimensions for the pot and motor shafts to connect the two, something like this:

    The pots should not need to rotate fully. So which part slips, the pot in its mount hole or the pot shaft attached to the motor?

    @Tori - just an observation but with a motor that big you want to make really sure your feedback is bulletproof. Lose feedback and that motor can cause real damage. I wouldn’t use potentiometers at all as they can go intermittent as they wear and age. For something with those kinds of motors I’d go with Hall or optical sensors to reduce/eliminate wear.

    I'm using 1:1 30 tooth gears to connect motors with hall sensors. Flexible coupling seems better, but I haven't got much space in line with motor axis, so I had to to it different way.
