My Finished cheap 2DOF VR Rig

Hi All posting my finished rig, this has been my first build and I wanted to thank everybody on this community for all the insight, tips and tricks they have posted. I would never have been able to build this without all the knowledge from everyone. This is a proof of concept and my first try to build a rig, I plan on later to build a 6dOF, however wanted to get my feet wet. I spent around $400 dollars for everything, although I did already have the tools to cut metal and weld, but for pure materials wise it was a very cheap build. I used seats from a CanAM which I got locally for $50 a pair lol, the motors are from electric wheelchair from ebay for $70 a pair/Very nice price. The rest of the electronics are your standard that everyone else uses. I am using Hall sensors with 3d printed syn gears. I can post the files if anybody is interested. I mainly use it for DCS and am using the Exp plugin which work very well. I do have to dial down the axis limits, otherwise its a little to wild for my tastes. For motion compensation Im using the Index controller, I tried the witmotion module, however it was a pain to calibrate and the controller Index appears to be more accurate and user friendly for me. Otherwise very happy with the build so far, thank you all!

These are wheelchair motors, they are available on the secondary market in various configurations, most often 24v 200W-400W with a worm gear or additionally, as in the above, with an additional gear.

New ones cost a lot of money even in china as counterfeit products. Used, on the other hand, can be bought very cheaply, depending on your patience, and you will buy a whole trolley cheaper than the engines themselves.

Thanks for the links, I wish there was a choice of cheap second hand motors in Europe. For some reason, they are more expensive here.

What kind of power supply did you use.

I see your lever seems a bit long, is it working well? So is my lever, maybe I have to adjust it again to avoid overloading the motor. Need a reasonable size for the lever.

Yes it does work well for my motor. The size will depend on your motor. I suggest you use the Simcalc found here in the forums if you haven't already.

Would you mind sharing the stl files for 3d printing? I'm basically copying your build.
