    Wow! Wow! Wow!

Looks like preorders now with shipping starting June 3 give or take.

Maybe the next generation of headsets is now hitting though the G2 hit last year. I really like the Vive/Pro but the Valve Index won my favor. The new Vive resolutions are G2 class.

Wondering if Valve is going to come out with a new product soon. The optics on the G2 are amazing. I see no Fresnel rings or flares and I love the high res. Comfort stank until I got the top band and counterweight kit for it but now it’s nice.

After an initial wave of excitement, I think I’m going to hang tight. Do love the Vives, though, and it looks like Vive is trying out 4-cam inside-out tracking on the Focus. I was doubtful with inside-out tracking but it’s actually been fine. I put some fiducial markers in camera view and can even leave my monitor on while in VR.

I guess innovation is continuing. Good to see some new headsets hitting!

The Vive Focus looks like it’s purpose designed for showrooms, design services, and other public/customer-facing applications. Active cooling, quick-change pads and cushions, etc. Expensive but I bet it will be kind of a VR showroom in itself. I know the G2 is good enough resolution for skeptics to drop the VR is a toy thoughts immediately and see no reason these would be different. Depending on optics, these could be very impressive headsets - and the Pro 2 is even decently priced.

HTC puts their chit on the table… Wonder what’s next?

Valve consulted on the G2 optics, and easily has the technical expertise to match or exceed that, but it is likely more a case of not necessarily needing to just yet.

The Vive's are aimed at a business audience, where HTC has long been a strong performer, but that kills consumer pricing.

I am also looking forward to what comes next.

The HTC President has confirmed via Twitter that the Vive Pro 2 FOV is 120 degrees horizontal, not diagonal, so is a significant FOV bump over the likes of the Index and Reverb 2:

HTC is missing out by not highlighting that. I saw the 120 degree bit and just assumed it was like the Index and Reverb. That’s very cool!

I may actually consider grabbing one with true 120 even though i have a Pimax 8kX Its a nightmare of a HMD for eyestrain if you are a bit unlucky.

There's an IPD wheel to adjust but there are a large number of people who has severe eyestrain due to poor hardware aligment and possibly some minor lens distance change they f up on but will never admit. You need to adjust one or both eyes in 2 dimensions trough software with no help other than eyestrain to guide you. Its tedious as hell. Even when lining up controllers as best i can i get eyestrain. On the 5k+ i also had to move one eye up by +5 but then it was golden. Been at it for 6 months on the 8kX and still not gotten it good. But this is another discussion. Its a fantastic HMD in itself but yeah Its about as far away from plug and play as you can get if your a tad unlucky.

If it wasnt for that there's no way id jump ship to a lesser FOV

100% agree that the Pro 2 looks very interesting.
Cant wait to read n watch the reviews.
And as has been said previously regarding the extra FOV . I wonder how that will equate to the increased resolution of the headset. ie an equivalent dpi.

Technically great timing to release, as their stocks of current headsets have been decimated by the covid crisis.
So moving any potential current 'out of date' stock must be negligable.
Fingers crossed that they will have enough supply for the exact same covid related reason. Especially for the early adopters. Alas no way I can justify a purchase but good luck to those that do.

Gotta say the HMD is growing on me. The colors are blacks are excellent its nice and sharp and when you remove the foam and stick the HMD straight on (I got just enough in so it does not hurt my nose.) the FOV and most importantly the vertical FOV is acceptable. It feels about Small FOV on the Pimax but with less vertical. If you use glasses in this and cant get right up on the lense i would say the vertical FOV is just much to narrow

Software. Not release ready. Opt for beta program right away. That aint ready either but it works somewhat.

    Sound. Well it aint great.

I came across this writeup which is quite nice.
