I agree, the second one can handle the force and will be stable enough.

A steering joint could support a seat, but its smaller size means you may get some unwanted lateral twist.

A car tailshaft uni joint is overkill in terms of supporting a seat, but ensures there is no lateral twist.

hi guys. I have been using the small one or one similar to that for years on my rig with no problems. Helps to keep the centre of gravity low being so short. The real test is how much twist (wear in the bearings) there is as the seat needs to remain straight.

    Thanks for your comments.

Just in case...I've bought the other one. Now I have both :)

The bigger one has a very subtle 'home position'. You notice when you leave center position. It's very subtle so I guess it won't affect overall movement.
    Or am I wrong?

I was wondering how your build is going. What's up with the "home" positioning? Which one did you use? Do you make any photo's of your build? I am eager to see it :)

I am slowly getting there.... but still have a long way to go :)

I already have my base and seat steel structure and also a base sketch for a triple monitor mount.
I have my custom made shaft couplers already made and my 'engine' almost assembled. It is currently an i5 7th gen, 16Gb, GTX1080, 512 SSD + 6TB HDD. It is not ideal but it will be upgraded early next year.

I will use the Ford Transit u-joint. It is way more robust.

So...I have everything and now is just a matter of engineering the mount and assembly it all together.

I am currently measuring seat heights using books as you can see for the photo :)

I remember that getting a good seating positioning is quite challenging. I measured everything upfront a 100 times, and still when the welding was finished it wasn't completely to my liking, the wheel was to high, and to close to the chest/body. So I had to cut some things reposition a bit and weld it together again, it's not ideal, but at least the positioning is "perfect" for me right now. So it's a trial and error process more or less, unless you get lucky I suppose and get everything the right way the first time.

The only thing I don't like right now about my rig is that my Handbrake is quite far away to reach. Perhaps I have to get used to it. Well, it does the job, and to be honest I wouldn't really know where else to place the damn thing haha. One other thing I am not to sure about is my racing seat. Perhaps I have to get used to it, but I can't say it's that comfortable to sit in. It's also quite small, I barely fit in it, I'd say I fit just perfectly in it. But I am being a little bit picky about these things I guess.

The PC you got, is almost similar to the one I got, I also have GTX1080, and an i5 8600K running at 4.1GHz or something. It should be able to run the G2 reverb. If not then I will also upgrade to a newer CPU and GPU. But I have good hopes that it will work fine at a decent FPS. It obviously also depends on what type of game you play too. Some games run great in VR some not so much.

Good luck with the build :)

I bought a semi-racing seat because of that. It is a bit wider and more confortable than a regular one. It is not FIA approved or anything like that. It is just a racing seat mainly for sim racing. Even so...it still take some time to get used to.

VR is sure a problem but my main problem is that I bought 32" triples. Got a fantastic deal on Samsungs G5 32" 1440p monitors. The 1080 is just not enough to drive 3 1440p monitors. Will be looking for at least a 3070 next year.

I am not completely sure about that, but I guess it depends on the game you are playing and what settings, but GTX1080 should be able to handle triple monitor setup. Obviously it also depends on what CPU you have. At least for iRacing it will work. Maybe not with the best FPS, but you should get above 80 I believe.

I don't really have the space for a triple monitor setup (at least not right now), so luckily I like VR more over monitors. :)

I will start my VR experience with an Oculus Quest 2 :)
It's cheap and will have to do for now.

I almost bought the Q2 over the G2. The quality is really good on the Q2. And it's much cheaper. Personally I just wanted the best quality so I went with the G2 anyways. And there are a couple of other benefits such as FOV. But I can't judge between the 2 to much because all my info is from YouTube through the lense video's and other reviews. Anyway the HTC Vive which I still have and used is still doing a great job. But the quality will be a huge improvement since that thing is 4+ years old by now or something? So I am so curious to see how different things wil be/are. Unfortunately I haven't heard from the company that delivers me the G2. They thought I possibly would receive it this week but I doubt that. So I might have to wait for January. But it's fine I can wait, but honestly I can't.. lol :p

Hehe. The G2 are sold out everywhere. I've heard only the preorders will be delivered this year. Regular orders will have to wait for as long as February :(

Even the Quest 2 is sold out. I am looking to buy one for a few days (since black friday) and they are sold out everywhere.

Yes, I was already afraid that would happen, for that reason I pre-ordered mine (but maybe just slightly to late because I was still not sure which one to buy Q2/G2 so I waited for some reviews/info before deciding).
But yeah, it's a problem, same thing with those GPU's. That's the only reason I pre-ordered because I was afraid that I would otherwise have to wait months for it to arrive.
