I was the same when I first started, but built up immunity by starting off small and increasing the time a little bit every day. I can use it now for a couple of hours at a time without feeling sick.

I pre ordered HP Reverb G2. I am going to build a new puter as soon a Ryzen 5000 series ships and I can get a RTX 3080. What is the situation with using the G2 in motion simulators? Is it the motion compensation support that's an issue? I just started taking an interest in motion simulators, so all advice welcome and needed.

Also, am I correct in assuming that by purchasing the Index knuckle controllers and light houses, my HP Reverb G2 with have motion compensation capability in VR games?
    Thanks

Geez. I was thinking about the Reverb but I’m glad I got the Quest. My graphics card would catch on fire if I tried to run the reverb if you are needing to upgrade from a 1080 haha.

I recently purchased a Reverb G2 as an upgrade to my Samsung Odyssey+. I'm running on an RTX 2080 and most everything is better on the G2 like fit, resolution, and a larger sweet spot. But when you can keep centered in the sweet spot of the Odyssey+ the vivid colors of its oled display just blow away the dull washed-out colors the G2 provides. And with the Odyssey's anti-screen door filter it looks just about as good as the G2 albeit a a lesser but satisfactory resolution. So unless you absolutely must be able to read, "Made in England" in small print at the bottom of a vintage racer in PCars2 right this moment, and considering the G2 is almost double the price of the Odyssey +, I would wait until HP can switch out their current LCD with a high resolution oled instead. Dull washed-out colors are just not very exciting to the palate.

Very interesting. I am on hold for an Odyssey 2
Have you tried a game like ACC?

Personally, I don't think Quest 2 has a bad price/performance ratio! The weight is also easy to use for a long time. It looks like it will be my next upgrade item.

I have had about four headsets so far..

Odyssey quest plus -bang for buck, but it was insanely uncomfortable. I'm talking so bad you would rather not use it.

Quest 2: awful head strap, but buying a new one, or 3d printing parts will make this go away. Solid headset!

Reverb g1: good resolution, face pad needs replaced with something nicer. After that it became pretty good for a race or two. (Shorter races). Audio I broke, so never got to use the built in.

Reverb g2: basically better in every way, comfort is what drives it home. Basically the same as the index. Sound is solid also, no complaints in the headset as it came from the factory.

If I did it again, I'd go g2 first, then a modded quest 2, or maybe a g1. The Samsung is a massive no go.

    hello Philip

i have the odyssey plus and it is very uncomfortable stock but with 2 simple mods it become perfectly ok
Comfort aside, how would you compare odyssey (is it the plus?) to G2 for visual and performance.
In short, is the visual quality increase worth the performance decrease?
    thanks

G2 is in a league of it's own vs the Samsung. I don't mind playing at 60fps with lower graphics though....not that I do that anymore but I use to.

I’ve been thinking about a VR head set for a while now. The main thing that worries me, is how close all that tech is to my eye’s and brain. With what little brain I have, I can’t risk loosing any! I know we are all exposed to so much of this these days (radiation, gamma, etc,) but has anyone looking into how these headsets are designed and if any shielding is present given how intimate they are with our heads?

Its basically a pair of binoculas with cameras on the end set at a long focal length.

I doubt they give off any nasy rfi like a mobile phone does.

Like a mobile phone, which also has similar components, a VR HMD has to be certified to be deemed safe for consumer purchase and use.

Are there long term possible health consequences from our modern day rabid use of electronic technological devices, possibly so, but the more immediate damage is psychological, not physiological.

And VR is interesting in terms of possible psychological effects, good and bad, it is already being used medically with PTSD and in other therapeutic areas. If VR can positively affect users psychologically, then it has to be presumed misuse and exposure to some types of experiences for some people may be harmful.

All that said, VR is awesome, particularly when combined with motion, haptics, wind and harness simulation, quality peripherals, and spatial audio, nothing else comes close other than doing something for real IRL. Personally I have been into VR since before the DK1.

I know many who say that have issue with motion sickness using my headset, I have an Occulus 2. I never did, I don't know if it is a problem on my part or theirs. I know that when I was younger when I was in the Army looking through a stabilized gun sight while on the move made me sick. I got over it. I am sure if you want to use VR, give yourself time and use it til you start to feel uneasy, it it down for the rest of the day and for back to it. you will get used to it.
