Hi experts, need your help on my rig :)

now that my actuator is almost down (design seems fine, waiting for parts) , see thread : https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/linear-actuator-with-ac-servomotor-beam-design.14089/

I am going to go on the rig itself (I know I should have down in the other way).

Project : 6 DOF rig with linear actuators for DCS fighter flying in VR, maybe FS2020 without VR

    What is already choosen : 6x 500mm stroke actuators - 500mm/s - foldback design - AMC-AASD15 card

    04/01/2020 an d before (since 2018 ?)

I started first with sunken platform design :

I even do a wooden rig

    [IMG] [IMG]

but I had a lot of problems in CAD with collisions between pedals and actuators, in extrem positions, so I need to increase the distance between base attachment for actuators. And the result is that I go quicly in position we don't want in translation :

    [IMG] [IMG]

so I decided to go on a normal platform, without sunken, thanks to foldback actuators I have 20cm more than inline design. Indeed, the top platform design is so much easier.

Here is the new design (dimensions are not fixed) :

    Here are my questions :

    1. Where to start to choose dimensions for top platform ? in sunken design I had to deal with arms, sunken, pedals, body, center of gravity.

    2. What is your advice for base platform ? same size than top ? more ? a lot more ?

    3. Is it a problem that COG is upper than geometric center of platform ?

    4. Could I use a design where standby position is not middle of actuator but a little bit under like 70-100mm ?

    Thanks a lot !

And the main question for me is :

what do I need for flying in VR with good sensations with motion platform ? big angles ? translation ? both ?

    What are the goal I have to aim for ? 20° pitch ? 10 ? 150mm surge ?

So I dunno where to start the design

    Thanks for your help

Hi @noorbeast thanks for your help but I already read these topics, I don't really have answer for my question.

I think I have speed (500mm/s) and precision with servo motors, but what do I have to aim for rig specifications ? 100mm translation ? 200 ? how much pitch and roll ?

    Thanks

You would need to research 6DOF projects and then verify dimensional specs, some are posted, like here, some are not: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/wickie´s-6dof-sim.13660/#post-183312

I am stuck with platform design choice.

I need more angle than surge and sway for flying in DCS I think, but don't know how to choose base platform

    Hexagon or triangular ? pros/cons ?
    5.png 4.png

    And inward/outward/vertical actuators ? which size ?

    3.png 1.png 2.png

    So much design choices

If someone could help me and brings some experience ?

    Thanks

Really not a lot of answer here ...

I think I will go for that :

    unknown5.png
    unknown2.png unknown.png unknown3.png unknown4.png

Max 30° pitch and roll in pure moves.

I began a wood prototype, it's fine for the seat and position :

    My Motion Simulator:
    AC motor, Motion platform
I would go with as much as you can get, as you cannot have too much - don't have to use it all. Although for most co-ordinated flight, heave and pitch are the most noticeable, with the others being more a transitional motion. Also of note. with the advent of many 6 DOF math sim software/plug-ins with adjustable roll center and powerful/cheap AC servo motors there are not many reasons to still go with a sunken Stewart platform design. Back when I had a Stewart platform, I only use a sunken design to lower the motor power requirements and allow the roll center to be naturally near were it should be before 6DOF math software was available on the popular sim software titles.

    I have some questions :

which material would you use for , and which gap with the cylinder ? (negative, 0, positive ?) thanks

Thanks to @Thanos and @pmvcda and others, I made some huge progress :

    Some new tests

I used hexpod profil (except I changed gain from 500 to 5 for translations), acceleration seems OK but roll/pitch not ... thanks for your help
