Compact Full frame, 2Dof with TL

    Hi Everyone,

    After reading through these forums for a number of years saying to myself one day i will build a motion sim, I'm finally taking the plunge!

    I've built several static sims over the years which i will try and dig photos up of to show everyone

    Have also built things like diy Cheap custom shifters and handbrake, button box, just having a go and making things work haha

    So my plan is a 2dof with traction loss, taking insperation from Noorbeast's, Avenga76's, Halloween2go, Blame73's and P00ky's combination of ideas

    So far i have already:

    Arduino Uno x1,

    Md30c rev2 X3 Motor controllers, Have started testing using Blame73's updated code had a few dumb moments last night but managed to work it out and had a succesful test on with motor motor

    6127V1A180L.5FS X3, i bought these hall pots as Noorbeast mentioned them and i was racking my brain trying to work out what direction to go in so that made that simple lol

    Logitech g27 wheel and pedals, Shifter gave up years ago, Will replace this at some stage not sure what with yet

    Arduino leonardo powered button box, Also controls my custom H pattern/Seq shifter

    Generic racing seat that is comfy and in good nick still

    Also Ordered:

    Rose joint 8 pack
    4 point harness
    8x skateboard wheels with bearings

    Annnd:

    About to order a cheap usb handbrake as i found one that i cant even get the parts to replicate for the price lol

    I need to find some motors now

    there are a few options i can go with but they vary from around $600 for three to my door to around $850

    not in a rush for that part atm as i dont have the cash to willy nilly throw about haha

    so i want to nail the motor choice before i even think about a purchase, I'd like to go with Avenga76's units but i dont know if the md30c will suffer the same issue that his Jrks had and i dont want to do this twice


    Any input along the way is muchly appreciated! i will try and post up little bits of info and some photos as we go, I really will! haha i usually get carried away in the job and don't remember until the end.....Just like my 1jz hilux project was kinda supposed to do a full log on that :(

    Alrighty we have movement on all three motors in Smc3 Woot Woot

    Can't wait to mount it all in a neat box Permanently, I'm over playing with the arduino pin wires hahaha

    Yeah i should bloody hope so i'm a qualified fabricator/welder lol, going to start by mounting all the electrics into a box, while i research and draw up my frame

    Heh probably a good place to start, mine are still nailed to a plank of wood :D You have at least inspired me to purchase some proper pots though. I'll look forward to seeing what you come up with & steal any potentially good ideas *cough... I mean....... "Standing on the shoulders of giants" as the great Newton once put it :)

    I always use heatsinks and fans.

    You could probably be fine with just fans, but what you'd want to avoid is to find out that an heatsink would have avoided a damage when it's already too late.
    A few bucks for heatsinks won't surely break your budget

    yeah too easy mate cheers for the input, How did you mount them?

    Just looking at them i wonder if i could thermal paste them and then in the middle section where its all open put a small dob of sika, put a weight on it while it sets, Thoughts?

    I use the ones made for arduinos, raspberries... they already have an adhesive strip, ready to use

    edit: unless I got heatsinks from cpus, in that case I cut them to size and use thermal adhesive stripes

    Update Time..

    So over the weekend i started on the control hub and got my hands on a driveshaft for the uni joint,

    I'm using a rather large box but i wanted everything well spaced out and easy to get to, The threee motor drivers are wired up as is the arduino, i used some servo lead for the wiring between the arduino and the driver plug, and i chopped up a usb extension lead for the pot wiring,I'm hoping i dont get to much feedback from the pot lines as i have little ceramic blocks where the wires are terminated as per pics attached,

    Need to buy two more Rgb fans and cut the holes out, Also need the large relay and cable glands.

    Will this size relay be suitable? Automotive Relay 150A SPDT From Jaycar, On the input to all drivers

    How does everyone prefer to isolate thier rig? before the driver or before the motor?

    Another Question

    Fuses: I relate most of this to cars as thats what i'm used to so: I would put a Large main fuse at the battery, Relay for emergency stop right at the drivers inside the box, then say 40A fuses on each motor? or is that too high or low? or set them at 30A as thats the continous rating of the controller?

    Forgot to take a photo with the lid on :( I will grab one tonight!

    Might have found the perfect power supply today,

    Saw these on Ebay:

    IBM EMERSON SERVER POWER SUPPLY 1975W

    Total output power on 240v Input is 162A@12.2V

    Question is......

    I was planning on having a Battery on the rig as a buffer to the power supply, I'm not going to blow shit up by potentially pumping 160 odd amps into the battery am i?

    Someone with more experience chime in if you have time please, Google is adding to the confusion

    More work on the control box, wiring almost complete, Still need the final two fans, lid is done now, Trying to decide whether to paint :think

    Then onto the frame next week :grin
