I seem to have had PiTool's motion compensation working previously (perhaps three times). Today I tried multiple times and it would not work. My setup sequence is:
    1. all equipment switched on
    2. start PiTool
    3. switch controller on
    4. see that the controller is visible in the PiTool>HMD>Motion drop-down list and select it
    5. start Steam
    6. start rFactor2 launcher
    7. start rFactor2
The car cockpit was moving all around me and tilting presumably reflecting what the motion platform was doing. I noted that the controller was still switch on when I finished and still selected in PiTool.

Previously I have just had small movements in the cockpit, e.g. under braking I appear to slide perhaps 50mm forward; I assume that this is as good as it gets with motion compensation.

Any suggestions with my startup order to reliably get motion compensation working?

Got PiTool motion compensation working today with the same sequence I listed yesterday. Maybe I needed to pause a bit to allow the base stations to see everything?

Even with motion compensation largely working, sometimes under heavy braking the front of the car rears up and the road is briefly no longer visible. Is this the experience others are seeing?

In the mean time maybe somebody who made it work will chime in and explain how it works.Have you tried re-running the PiTools boundary setup since adding the controller?

Did you try with out attaching the base station to the motion sim? I currently have everything working but 8m not using the motion cancellation of the headset I'm using some open vr version that I setup using one remote I am using the yaw vr and it works perfectly the same should be true for you. Try it with the base stations off the simulator I think only oculus works on the simulator due to it being camera type sensors.

Lighthouse base stations should never be attached to motion rigs, they high speed and precision components inside.

I raised a support ticket with Pimax about their motion compensation not working reliably or at all and they said:

just confirmed one thing from our RD team, the motion compensation function is no stable for current pitool version, they will fix this issue in future pitool.

    Don't hold your breathe.

I have reverted to the Open VR method.

PiTool motion compensation seemed to work fine this weekend when I was trying all the different motion compensation solutions. It was the only one that I could get to work even after the SteamVR hotfix. OVRMC and OVRIE all seem to only want compensate translation for me even when I rotate the tracker. I am not sure if it is a PiTool issue or an ALVR issue causing the problem for me. I'm due for a fresh install.
