The HP Reverb G2 will be sold on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1271440/Next_Gen_HP_VR_Headset/

The Reverb G2 is being developed in collaboration with Valve and Microsoft.

G2 specs and details are pretty slim, outside of the official trailer, but there is plenty of speculation: https://www.roadtovr.com/hp-reverb-g2-valve-microsoft/

This is definitely on my wishlist.
Currently using Reverb which as you have said elsewhere is fine without motion cancellation regarding short movements.
I am wondering if this new model will combine Valve lighthouse tracking with Index fov, comfort & audio with the Reverb resolution.

I have pre-ordered one based on the above videos and a few others on youtube.
    sold my original Vive already.

I am undecided on a motion platform, I like the look of the YawVR as it looks versatile to use with flight sims
    as well as racing sims.

Just found your post, @noorbeast. Thank you for the heads-up!

The resolution and sweet spot are very tempting. I run my Index at 90 fps to compensate for stuttering and this is 90 fps max but the high pixel counts are both a siren song and extra load on the GPU rendering at higher resolution.

I would love to jump on it but wonder what Valve plans to do with Index. Anyone heard anything about Index II? I keep pinning my high resolution dreams on foveated rendering and the upcoming 3000 series GPUs having the umph needed or maybe even hardware features (one can hope though the hopes keep getting smashed), but the Reverb 2 is looking good too.

I did find this at UploadVR (https://uploadvr.com/valve-vader-headset-5000/) Apparently, Valve had been aiming much higher with “Vader” but incorporated features into Index. Gaben seemed at least at that time to be pushing high end VR hard. Index is now one year old but still sold out. It could be another year before we get a successor.

    Hmmmm.

Off topic, but Index has never been released in countries such as Australia, so likely 'sold out' is just a reflection of limiting supply.

That’s definitely a part of it. VR news was that they weren’t running many lines. But at whatever rate they are making them, they could sell more if they made them faster.

That Reverb is very interesting and the reviewer in that video really liked it. The increased resolution, big sweet spot, and comfort would be nice.

Definitely thinking about it. Hoping to hear more while knowing I’m slipping farther down the preorder line...

    just had a nice email,

"This is to confirm we have received your order and it is currently being processed by HP in factory. You will be one of the first in the UK to receive the headset. Your order number is #2191. "

I certainly hope HP does not go down the Valve Index path of very limited and restricted release, as they have plenty of worldwide distribution experience.

I preordered the G2 yesterday. Surprised that I never received an acknowledgement of the preorder. It shows in my account as having been preordered though.

EDIT: Interesting to note that Flight Simulator 2020 will only be VR compatible with the G2 for the first couple of months.

That's interesting. Maybe to control the experience some and/or promote the G2?

With that, is there any new news on 2020 supporting VR? Last I heard was not initially but what I heard was also that VR was mostly a done deal but not decided on for sure. This would indicate it might be a sure thing? Any word on when the G2 would be supported (and presumably others 2 months later)?

Well, I signed up too. I didn’t find a preorder button on the Steam page but Connection had one. (Yet another fulfillment center to deal with... and nightmares of Digital River. ;-) I am a fan of Lighthouse tracking so first venture into this mode of tracking and hoping the 4 cameras help that. It sounds like they have optics and displays nailed for 90fps, though, and those through the lens shots are gorgeous. If you haven’t tried off-ear speakers, you are in for a treat.

The pull for me was resolution, display quality, optics, and big sweet spot. This one goes fairly deep on the display quality in G2 compared to G1 (spoiler - big improvements to an already good design): https://www.roadtovr.com/hp-reverb-g2-hands-on-preview/

I am guessing it will be at least another year before Valve updates the Index, but with this being a Valve collaboration with HP, it makes me wonder what the roadmap is for Index. I’m really hoping for more headsets that push technology for the best experience. For dedicated setups, external tracking like Lighthouse and Constellation sets a high bar, and the high framerates the Index can hit really do have a different quality to them. The Index for me has been my best headset yet.

I found an older article about the G2 here if anyone hasn’t seen it already: https://www.roadtovr.com/hp-reverb-g2-announcement-pre-order-price-release-date/

Looks like September 15 is release (maybe). And if rumors are true, good timing for the Nvidia 3000 series cards as well. ;-)

    Preorder mine yesterday through Connections.

Also will be upgrading my 1080ti to a 30 series when that comes out as well.

I had to order via amazon.es because amazon.fr didn't offer it...

    It's long too wait ;)
