Question Looking for a static rig, what good options?

Hi, I'm totally new to this, and someone drowning in info from the forums ... not sure why I thought it'd be simpler than it is :-/

I have a decent gaming machine on order, and an oculus quest, I'm eyeing up a Fanatec CSL Elite, or a Clubsport 2.5, and was considering a DOF Reality H3.

However, realising how little I know about this field, and reading conflicting opinions based on topics I don't yet have any clue about, I'm resolving to start with just the wheel, pedals, and hopefully VR. Once I'm comfortable with that, I might try to research some more on the motion platforms later.

So my question is, as a 6'5"/1.95m ~250lb/115kg guy, what recommendations could you make for a static platform, and (presumably adjustable) seat that I could use, just to mount the Fanatec wheel and pedals, and get me started down this motion sim path?

There are plenty of commercial static rigs to choose from.

But if you want something simple to build that adds some rumble haptics as well then check out the VR haptic rig I built for my father, it was made for flight simulation but would work equally well for racing, with the pedal position being adjustable, 8 rumble motors built into the chair and 2 more attached to the pedals: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/teddles-vr-haptic-rig.13821/

Thanks @noorbeast, that project does look great, and I admire it!

But to be honest, I'm looking for something even simpler. I would like to get a 'full, proper' motion platform at some point, and wouldn't want to spend any more time and (to an extent) money on building something, that I plan to replace later.

Effectively I'm after the simplest thing, that's better than my office desk, to mount a steering wheel on, and just start to play some racing games.

Hi buddy and welcome to the site. I'm sure it feels although you are drowning in info that you don't understand as there is a lot on this site some of which is fairly cutting edge for diy builds. You wont need to understand everything as nobody does and you have to start somewhere right so my advice would be this.
Firstly all you need basically to start sim racing is to have a seat and mount the wheel and pedals so they don't move about (I've used the end of an ironing board for the wheel, carpet gripper for the pedals and the sofa as a seat before so the kids could play but don't recommend that for you). You could go for something like the playseat evolution if you want a ready to go out the box cockpit but might be difficult to upgrade to motion later if you wanted it. You could build something out of timber and plywood and get an old car seat for it at a fraction of the cost and you could change it to your requirements quickly and easily if you wanted motion later. You could buy a commercial motion sim like the h3 you mentioned but would need a pro licence to use simtools for all games (no diy there buddy).
As for diy motion id suggest getting some cheap parts and try to get a single motor working first. Id buy an Arduino uno, a motor monster or a L298n h bridge, a cheap 10k potentiometer, a second hand 12v wiper motor from a scrap yard or ebay and a 12v battery or power supply. Follow the tutorials on ground isolating the motor and connecting the potentiometer to it as well as setting up the SMC3 software. You may find once you can do practical testing that your understanding of things grows and you have more success than you thought.
You don't know until you try and you only fail when you give up buddy.

Thanks for the help @yellofella, The playseat thing is exactly the sort of thing I'm after right now. Although the seat doesn't look like it's adjustable, so I'll need to check it will cope with my height (and to a lesser extend, my weight).

It doesn't matter so much right now about not being upgradable, it might be a year or so until I go the motion route, so if I spend £3000 in a year, it won't matter to me that I've 'wasted' £300 on a basic setup now, assuming I get a year of use out of it (I'll probably just give it to a mate anyway, and make someone else happy).

To be frank, I do love little projects like this, and it's super tempting to try and do a little DIY sim, but I know myself (and the constraints on my time), if it'll take me even as little as 30 hours to build, that'd probably take over a month, which is a month's worth of gaming/racing I could be doing instead :D

I'm actually very tempted to go straight in for an H3 to be honest, but even then, until I've done some more research (which I can sneak doing during my working day), I feel even that would require too much time to get up and running before I can actually appreciate it!
