    Hi there, although I've been on this website many times over the years I finally decided to bite the bullet, build a rig & join up. I live in Mid Wales and normally spend my time building CNC machines (small scale laser cutters & 3d printers....... not that I'm any kind of expert you understand) & being generally baffled by electronics. I'm a big fan of Rally games in VR & want to take my immersion to the next level. I'll be starting a build log soon as I've already (some what foolishly) started to spend my hard earned monies on parts & will be looking for more advice than any rational and clever person would ever need as these are traits I sadly lack as a human being.

    hi guys,

    New to this forum. I started iracing with my brothers to overcome the lack of real world racing and to be honest its better then I expected. experience is not bad, and crashes are much less costly and painful :)

    The wheel and pedals however is a poor replacement for the real thing, so being a mechanical engineer naturally I thought of a motion rig. Bit of google and found this. Looks good, and seems not too tricky from a software point of view which is an important consideration, as I'm not a hardcore software developer.

    I want to make 3 rigs for me an my brothers, and thinking a 6DOF hexapod system since it is very cool. Looks very good, and has large movements which I like. I'll try not to ask too many dumb questions and will first get as much as information and knowledge as possible, make a basic CAD design and system overview and if you guys would give input on that would be much appreciated!

    A 6DOF is an ambitious first project, being an engineer will help.

    SimTools can be set with a and b axis allocations, so can handle 12 axis, so plenty of capacity for additions such as harnesses, G-seat and the like.

    Thanks! Yeah its ambitious, but I really like the hexapod system from an aesthetic and movement point of view. I plan to make a low cost proof of principle first to see if I get the data acquisition and motion control more or less working, and try to implement all lessons learned in the actual sim. Will use the weekend to read relevant stuff here and will start a thread.

    Hello everyone.
    Seems a lifetime ago when I first joined here 8 years ago, bought a couple of SCN5's from here and I was hooked on motion. Well 8 years later and after selling up twice I have just bought an NJMotion SV2-REINF so looks like I'm back here to get to grips with SimTools.
    Nice to still see some familiar names.

    Hi all I forgot to introduce myself I'm Craig from the uk . Built sim number 1 with not alot of success yes it did work but was not happy. Racing mats arduino code 12v wiper motor and cheap vnh2sp30...so striped sim apart and redesigned it from front mount to rear shoulder mount. 24v wheelchair motor's 2 psu smc3 code advised by noorbeast. And wow what a difference . Anyway all the parts left over I made a little seat mover for my 7 year old boy

    Long time lurker, 1st time poster. I'm a gen x'r living in the US. Been dorking out on simpits/FF for a long time but always ruled it out a motion platform mostly for space or cost but with the SFX100 project it makes it feasible. I used to work for E2M Technologies assembling, testing/certifying, and field servicing high end 6dof motion platforms (Cruden buys their platforms/motion hardware from E2M for instance) a few years back but now work at an FX studio that specializes in anamatronics. I've done some FF projects as well so have spent quite a bit of time over the years rummaging through posts on this forum and finally feel like I have things to contribute back.

    Took the plunge and began my SFX 100 based project already, am still collecting parts and deciding on a bunch of details but it's a variant of the 100 with enough deviation from the original plan that I'm not sure what to call it.. SFX150? SFX150B?... It uses 10mm pitch screws and has 150mm travel and uses 80mm extrusions though the actual form factor for assembly is carried out basically the same, run by Simtools/Thanos controller. A French user named Mavric came up with the formula though I'm deviating a bit from his as well. I'll make a build post to go into further detail, just acquainting myself with the community first.
