    i like the idea - can you fit more springs for more lift ?

    this concept will work on a 6dof also ;)

    the only problem you need to consider is if something goes wrong and the motor tries to rotate 360 degrees

    - white U arm is going roughly up and down
    - Spring is here to compensate part of gravitation force during the lifting.

    But how the seat is guided up and down?

    so if you were using this principle on a 6 dof, what spring rate would you use? If the rig is say 180kg inc person and peripherals, would you use 6 x 30kg rated springs?

    The spring rate is not defined in terms of weight, but as force per length (e. g. N/mm).
    For calculating the desired spring rate, you need to know your overall weight plus the maximum travel distance of your motors or actuators.
    You probably want the fully loaded rig to remain in neutral position with idle motors. And you want the springs to support the motors along the entire travel distance, or at least a large part of it. These could be the parameters on which you can base your calculation.
